The summer work day is 10 hours with a ½ hour paid lunch; Monday – Thursday. The summer work day will be for departments that work Monday-Friday. The summer work schedule will start the last Monday of May and end the first Monday in September. 

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of Grants and Contracts Director, research and develop strategically aligned proposals for funding new and existing tribal programs and projects.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with Department Directors and Program Managers to understand their ongoing needs, program goals and funding needs. Advise on writing grant applications.
  • Prepare grant applications including narrative scope of work, goals and objectives, evaluation components when required, and budget narrative for tribal staff review.
  • Work with Accounting Department in preparation of grant and contract budgets.
  • Prepare and submit grant application Executive Summary including budget summary and Motion Request to Tribal Council and Tribal Administration for review and approval of grant submission. Prepare and submit grant applicants to funder within expected timeframes.
  • Provide technical assistance to requests from Tribal staff or Tribal Administration and document requests and outcomes in Technical Assistance Log.
  • Enter completed grant submissions into Grant Tracking Log along with corresponding grant and contract files for final submission to the Alchemy central file system and Accounting.
  • Attend department planning sessions to identify, prioritize and coordinate grant research and grant preparation as required for program planning and grant application submission.
  • Assist departments with grant and contract modifications, amendments and other areas as appropriate. Provide assistance in resolving issues with funding agencies.
  • Assist in the collection of current data and statistics within the Tribe for development of effective data driven grant applications.
  • Assist in maintaining library of research materials for planning and development issues as well as grants and contract opportunities.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

  • Empowered to interact with all levels of Tribal Operations personnel in order to communicate operational decisions.
  • Frequent contact with Tribal Council members, administrative staff, outside governmental agencies and community organizations to accomplish the objectives of the Tribal organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of grant writing principles, procedures, and standards.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments and trends in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and community funding sources and mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, federal and tribal regulations.
  • Skill in writing proposals and grants.
  • Skill in collecting, analyzing, verifying, managing and manipulating research data.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including Windows programs.
  • Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Ability to write, edit, and revise a range of technical communications from specifically compiled raw data.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to create and present effective speeches and presentations.
  • Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
  • Ability to make solid decisions, meet strict timelines, and exercise independent judgment.


Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time, use arms and hands.
  • Frequently walk, stand, bend, crouch, and crawl.
  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.


Work Environment:

  • Normal office environment.
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
  • Travel may be required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor`s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Economics, or related field.
  • Three years` experience in grant writing and grant administration.
  • An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.


License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
