Volunteer Specialist

General Responsibilities:

• Develop and oversee processes to recruit and manage agency volunteers and interns.
• Act as the primary contact for volunteers, interns, and volunteer placement organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   

• Maintain up-to-date records of all volunteers and interns.
• Complete required volunteer reporting for internal and external sources.
• Recruit volunteers across the agency’s service area through attending community events and through developing relationships with local universities, churches, and other community groups.
• Work with program staff to facilitate the most effective use of volunteers within their programs.
• Coordinate with Human Resources department to manage volunteer screening procedures; obtain necessary approvals.
• Define volunteer opportunities throughout the agency and coordinate volunteer involvement for these opportunities.
• Develop job descriptions for volunteers and interns.
• Develop and implement volunteer recognition & retention initiatives.
• Develop and complete orientation for volunteers and interns.
• Evaluate and track volunteer and intern satisfaction.
• Participate in personal and professional development activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

• Minimum of High School Diploma.
• Preferred experience training, managing and working with volunteers.

Additional Requirements:

• Must have proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet)
• Shall protect the privacy of volunteers and hold in confidence all sensitive information obtained in the course of professional service.
• Demonstrate communication skills both oral and written.
• Successful clearance of DHHS Central Registry, criminal history record check.
• Must be self-directed and able to coordinate the completion of assigned tasks and be willing to accept new challenges on a daily basis.
• Comply with Agency’s smoke free and drug free policies.
• Understand the importance of daily work attendance.
