Position details

Oversees and manages machine shop operations. Coordinates the machining of jobs, materials and the flow of parts in the shop.

Performs various supervisory duties; monitors production, quality and employee work habits; trains employees as needed and ensures the same.

Job Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma. Vocational training in machining, mechanical technology or trades area preferred.

Experience: Several years of machining and related experience is required. Previous supervisory experience is highly preferred

An appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered.

Skills:
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of subordinate employees. Ability to make assignments and manage the flow of work in the shop. Ability to manage the performance of subordinate employees, monitoring and documenting exceptions to performance and behavioral standards.
  • Ability to function as a machinist/machine operator - the ability to operate a variety of machine tools and measuring devices and read blueprints. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, as well as an ability to write in English. Ability to function responsibly and independently with minimal supervision.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • On a day-to-day basis, manages the various machining operations of the machine shops.
  • Manages, coordinates and tracks the flow of jobs, parts and products through the shops, making daily and ongoing work assignments for the various machining centers.
  • Continuously oversees the work activities of subordinates, specifically productivity, quality, work habits, training needs and attendance management.
  • May operate a machine routinely or as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Verify information on documents to correspond with parts and correctness of information.
  • May operate forklift trucks, overhead crane, hand trucks, floor or hanging scales as needed.
  • Participate in annual required safety training.

  • Physical and Mental Efforts:

    General: Extensive mobility required, some moderate lifting. Position requires ability to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds rarely; walking and standing for long durations; see objects closely; and hear normal sounds with some background noises. Position requires ability to concentrate with some interruption and attend to tasks for 45 to 60 minutes at a time.

    Environmental and Working Conditions:

    Industrial shop setting. Dust, dirt, coolant, metal debris from machining will be encountered. Must be able to wear a respirator when required. Moderate to high levels of noise will be encountered.
