Job Description

The SUD Behavioral Health Tech (BHT) Supervisor is responsible for the overall performance of the BHT staff. The BHT Supervisor schedules BHT staff to meet facility needs, trains BHT staff to competently perform job duties, provides ongoing education, and annual competencies. Conducts performance reviews and disciplinary action for BHT staff. The BHT Supervisor also performs advanced indirect and selected direct patient care duties in support of the clinical process in a competent manner.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all DBH policies and procedures.
  • Conducts self in a manner that always represents DBH values.
  • Provides exemplary customer service to all patients.
  • Exhibits understanding and respect for cultural and lifestyle diversity.
  • Provides leadership to the BHT team and delegate responsibilities accordingly.
  • Assists in the orientation of newly assigned BHT personnel, as directed.
  • Observe rounds and records rounds in accordance with policy.
  • Reviews and Audits BHT rounds per policy and provides feedback to BHT’s regarding compliance.
  • Assists in facility checks related to Quality Assurance protocols if/when directed by supervisor or director.
  • Responds to telephone calls from BHT's on an on-call basis if/when necessary.
  • Schedules BHT staff members and provides coverage during outages as needed/directed.
  • Assigns Behavioral Techs responsibilities on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Ensures that shift reports, incident reports and any other medical/administrative documentation is completed within the timeline/policy.
  • Monitor staff compliance with program policies and procedures and review documentation to assure compliance with program, DHCS and Joint Commission compliance including client chart audits.
  • Ensure patient compliance with the Daily Schedule and on-time attendance and adherence to allocated rooms. 
  • Communicate schedule and room changes to all departments.
  • Lead the Community Meeting for patients in the morning as assigned.
  • Performs basic housekeeping duties.
  • Facilitates and leads daily groups as directed by facility leadership if applicable.
  • Attends, contributes to all staff meetings and in-service trainings.  Leads discussions as applicable.
  • Completes all online training, policy verification, and ensures that their employee HR file is kept up to date.
  • Monitors and oversees the self-administration of patient medication if applicable.
  • Record vital signs as directed.
  • Coordinate and circulate sign-up sheets for optional activities.
  • Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge of patients. 
  • Assist in packing patients’ belongings, escorting them to the discharge/transfer area, loading, etc., as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
  • Assist in escorting patients to and from activities and social functions.
  • Supervise fitness time for patients as necessary.
  • Assist with dietary fulfillment processes: timetable, distribution, reminders, data entry & output.
  • Assist new admits intake process.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • When required to transport patients:
    • Prior to transporting patients, ensure that there are no alert signals active (i.e., check engine light, TPMS system, etc.) and that tires are properly inflated in accordance with manufacturer standards.
    • Accompany and transport patients as assigned.
    • Arrives promptly and ensures patients prompt arrival for appointment.
    • Follows vehicle operation rules.
    • Practices defensive driving techniques
    • Be able to verbalize protocol for transportation safety and for management of out-of-control behaviors.
    • Reports to Leadership concerns and/or issues related to clients’ transportation.

This is a full-time position that will work Tuesday-Saturday 3pm-11pm (2nd shift).

Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of experience working in a behavioral health facility strongly preferred.
  • Leadership experience is preferred.
  • Valid and unrestricted required State Driver’s License if applicable
  • Minimum of 1 year sobriety if in recovery
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to document within an electronic system.
  • First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire and required recertification annually thereafter.
  • De-escalation/restraint technique certification within 90 days of hire and recertification yearly thereafter.
  • Medication training within 30 days of hire if applicable.
  • Has completed or enrolled, in an approved counselor certification program, with a current certificate and must maintain active certification throughout their employment (Preferred)
