Job Title: Safety/Quality Intern

Reports to: Health Safety, Environmental and Quality Manager

Duration: Summer 2024 (June-August)

Hours: Monday-Friday during normal business hours

Job Summary

The Safety/Quality Intern will perform administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the organization’s Health Safety, Environmental and Quality department. This individual will need to be willing to learn and demonstrate excellent communication and organization skills to support the strategy and goals of the department.

Essential Duties

  • Assist with the review and investigation of safety incidents.
  • Assist with conducting safety audits, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collect and analyze data related to SPC.
  • Assist with ergonomics in the workplace.
  • Review and revise quality documents such as procedures, manuals, and work instructions.
  • Participate in quality audits, observing operations and identifying compliance issues.
  • Conduct AIB internal audits and document findings.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions for identified issues.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow company policies and understand any rules or regulations governing the work being completed and the impact work has on our department or company.
  • Strong self-starter attitude.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook experience desired.

Education and Experience

  • Actively enrolled in a degree program preferably focused on business, safety, quality, or another related field


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move around for extended periods of time.
  • Capability to push, pull, lift and carry objects of various weights.
  • Proficiency in using hands, fingers, and arms for tasks such as typing and writing.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to read documents and operate office equipment.
  • Ability to hear and understand verbal communication.
  • Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach low or high objects.
  • Adaptability to work in varying environmental conditions, such as temperature extremes, noise, dust, or fumes, depending on the nature of the job.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and wear protective gear, including helmets, goggles, gloves, and safety shoes, as required by the job.

Travel Requirements

This position will not require overnight travel and or any travel within the workday.

Driver Qualification

The ability to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of the company is not needed for this position. Inclusion in the company’s driver qualification program is required to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle.

Becoming a qualified driver includes:

  • Agree to the company driving policies that apply to company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle as applicable.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license and be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record, as evidenced by completion of a baseline motor vehicle record check and ongoing monitoring.
  • When driving a personal vehicle on behalf of the company, must provide a copy of the declaration page from personal auto insurance that shows the policy dates and minimum coverage amounts ($300,000 bodily injury per accident/$100,000 property damage per accident or if driving less than 5 hours/200 miles a year $50,000 bodily injury per accident/$10,000 property damage per accident or the state minimum, whichever is more). This requirement is initially and then annually thereafter.
