Primoris Industrial & Civil is looking for an experienced Civil Superintendent responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of earthwork operations on a construction site. Their primary role is to ensure that the excavation, grading, and other earth-moving activities are performed safely, efficiently, and according to project plans and specifications. Projects performed out of Primoris’ Mulberry, Florida office primarily are focused on large scale civil earthwork, mining, and site development projects.

Job Summary:

The Civil Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the execution of construction activities conducted by foremen and craft workers for a various construction projects related to energy infrastructure. The Civil Superintendent will have experience in the construction of large earthwork projects, including, but not limited to:

  • Dams and/or Impoundments
  • Ditch and Berms Systems
  • Land Reclamation
  • Site Grading
  • Dewatering

The Superintendent will have knowledge of soil mechanics, ability to identifying problems, and developing work plans to mitigate. They will also ensure that construction activities are executed efficiently, safely, and within budget, while maintaining high-quality standards. Specific accountabilities include managing field crew, coordinating/updating schedules, inspections, quality control, job site safety, interaction with the owner’s representative and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with the project plans, specifications, and permits, monitoring the budget, tracking quantities, and generating required reporting. Exceptional leadership skills, technical expertise, and ability to collaborate with various stakeholders will be essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

Construction Planning and Coordination:

  • Collaborate with project managers to develop construction plans, schedules, and budgets for civil construction projects.
  • Ensure that all construction activities comply with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to review and interpret project designs and specifications, ensuring clarity and feasibility.

Team Management and Leadership:

  • Oversee a team of industrial construction foremen and craft workers, providing clear direction, guidance, and support.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to construction crew members, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and productivity, promoting adherence to company policies and best practices.

Project Execution and Quality Control:

  • Understand and Interpret Plans and Specifications.
  • Setting up hauls to maximize production and minimize costs.
  • Monitor construction progress, ensuring adherence to project schedules and milestones.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Implement effective measures to address any deviations, issues, or delays, and communicate them to project stakeholders.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with construction manager, project managers, field engineers, and other internal stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Serve as a point of contact for external stakeholders such as the client/owner, contractors, suppliers, regulatory authorities, fostering positive relationships.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on project progress, identifying risks, and proposing mitigation strategies.

Resource and Cost Management:

  • Manage the allocation and utilization of resources, including equipment, materials, and labor, to optimize project efficiency.
  • Monitor project costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and work within the allocated budget.
  • Assist project management in controlling project costs and maintaining overall profitability for the project.

Requirements:

  • 5-8 years’ experience as a Superintendent, General Foreman or similar supervisory role in the industrial construction industry.
  • Proven experience in industrial construction and civil projects, preferably in the mining and/or site development industry.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction techniques, and industry best practices.
  • Deep understanding of safety regulations incl. trench safety, environmental practices, and quality control processes in the industrial construction industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with the capacity to motivate and manage a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in MS Office, project management software, and other relevant applications.
  • Possess a valid driver license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Relocation to an area within commutable distance of the project sites and/or office location.

Preferred:

  • MSHA Experience and Certification
