Laboratory/Pharmacy technician 

Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital is a 24-hour emergency/critical care and specialty veterinary hospital dedicated to providing compassionate medical care to the dogs and cats entrusted to our care. Primary duties will include: 

• Follow hospital’s general policies and protocols. 
• Prepare and fill medications for both outpatients and hospitalized patients where permitted by state law and in accordance to state law. 
• Perform computer entry of prescription information including but not limited to: patient search, prescriber search, drug selection, prescription interpretation & entry, insurance billing and basic problem resolution. 
• Assist with maintaining the Pharmacy department by keeping it clean and in order. 
• Assist with drug inventory control, 
• Follow appropriate hospital protocol for filling-controlled substances. 
• Explain medications with the owners to assure they understand the doctor’s instructions using excellent customer service skills. 
• Check prescription refill line, keeping daily log of requests and filling prescriptions daily. 
• Manage the pharmacy log and ensure that refill requests are handled promptly. 
• Entering all services into the hospital information system (client invoice). 
• Entering laboratory results along with requisitions.  
• Ability to prepare samples for inhouse and external lab 

About You: 

• 1 or more years of veterinary medicine experience 
• You have excellent communication skills, teamwork capabilities and are courteous to clients. 
• You can multitask and work independently, as well as communicate with doctors and technicians to maintain workflow and excellent patient care. 
• Have exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to perform basic drug calculations. 
• You are proficient in using Microsoft Word and Outlook and have basic Microsoft Excel skills.. 
• This position is in a 24 -hour, 365 day per year hospital and will require two holiday shifts per year. 
• Ability to run in house lab equipment 
• Basic cytology skills
