Job Title: Specialist, Field Service Engineer
Job Code: 8311

Job Description: 

As a Specialist, Field Engineer this person will be responsible for supporting on-site installation, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems. Requires in-depth knowledge of RF principles, with an ability to evaluate performance data to identify root-cause conditions and requirements non-conformance. Working experience in system integration and product acceptance testing; with emphasis on the Verification and Validation (V&V) stages.  

Strategic Role:

Work consists of making moderate enhancements or improvements to systems and processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of functional classifications. Opportunities for problem solving and innovation are general, and may require understanding of broader set of issues but typically are not complex. Problems may require understanding of other job functions. Problems are typically solved drawing from prior experiences, with analysis of the issues.

Tactical Role:

May work under general supervision or independently at remote facility. May be responsible for entire projects or processes within job area. May be responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area. May manage projects at this level with responsibility for the delegation of work and the review of others' work product. Works to achieve operational targets with moderate impact on departmental results. Contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects. Exerts some influence on the overall objectives of the project.

 

Essential Functions: 

•    Oversee and assist in the performance of scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on various applications of Electronic Equipment. 
•    Ability to travel up to 50%, both CONUS and OCONUS locations.
•    Lead integration efforts of LRUs through System Acceptance Testing
•    Lead system test events, execute alignment procedures, perform site installations.  
•    Oversee the set up and proper operation of test equipment common to RF testing.
•    Oversee and assist in the operation of equipment to demonstrate its proper function or to analyze malfunctions using manufacturer’s manuals and specifications.
•    Oversee and assist in the repair, replacement and adjustment of equipment or components, replacing worn parts.
•    Oversee and assist in the inspection of components of equipment for accurate assembly and for defects such as loose screws, nuts connections and frayed wires. 
•    Consult with other Field Engineers, Supervisors, and other Engineers to plan layout of equipment and to resolve problems in system operations and maintenance.
•    Oversee and assist in the performance of the installation of repaired equipment in various settings, such as industrial and military establishments.
•    Ability to climb both vertical ladders and stairways and work in tight spaces.  
•    To stand, kneel, extend overhead for prolonged periods of time.

 

Qualifications: 
•    Clearance: Secret or Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
•    Minimum of 4 + years’ experience in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, LRU repair
•    Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience, or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience, or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
•    Military experience specializing in RADAR Principles may be used in lieu of Degree. 

 

Preferred Additional Skills:
•    Excellent organization skills
•    Strong oral presentation skills
•    Effective communication skills in a collaborative team environment
•    Experience in supporting system hardware through Installation/ Integration processes and general First-Article Test (FAT) cycles 
•    Understanding of the principles of RF Theory with working knowledge of Radar principles. 
•    Experience testing and integration processes in a production environment
•    Basic understanding of the principles of Electronic Warfare (EW) technology
•    Experience with OSHA requirements and ESD best practices
•    Familiarity with Development of Test Requirements
•    Solid fundamentals in electrical engineering (ability to troubleshoot systems down to Sub component level)

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $70,500-$131,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
