Quality Engineer (Automotive Lighting)

PURPOSE: 
Under general supervision, the primary purpose of this position is to serve as a communication channel between the customer’s Supplier Engineer or Program Manager and our Management and Design personnel to ensure that all aspects of the development of a certain project stay on schedule and meet quality requirements needed to launch the best quality product possible. Will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality assurance methods and statistical techniques, in accordance with company policy, to ensure the product meets or exceeds our customer expectations. Additionally, will diagnose quality problems and implement programs to improve product quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Monitor information associated with the quality of a project, make process improvements, and evaluate corrective actions taken.
• Address any quality issues associated within a project and communicate to manufacturing departments any quality alerts needed for successful launch.
• Communicate with supplier/vendor regarding nonconforming material/product.
• Evaluating and tracking customer returns/rejects.
• Plans, develops and implements process controls to reduce customer rejections
• Prepare any documentation associated with project launch and develop quality targets.
• Attend meetings and coordinate any training associated with the launch of a new project.
• Travel to customer location associated with product quality/function.
• Attend tool trials and perform internal joint checks to feedback part development/quality issues.
• Coordinate functional trials and Part Submission approval for initial part approval and design changes to current production components.
• Submit parts approval documentation to the customer.
• Coordinate part availability with development testing/dimensional analysis and communication schedule.
• Document issues on Product Development Record throughout development cycle.
• Recommend design changes to correct Fit and Finish issues.
• Communicates frequently with internal and external contacts on various issues.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Understands IATF 16949
• Lead auditor of IATF 16949 a plus
• Strong in APQP, PAP, and other engineering core tools
• Experience with launches, and audits
• Nissan experience a plus

EDUCATION:

• Have a Bachelors degree in a related discipline and 1-4 years experience in a related field

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to, sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
