Job Summary:

Manage members of the underwriting team. Conduct risk assessment for case level underwriting offers, communicates decisions and ensures systems reflect appropriate action. Ensure decision provided falls within the company s established guidelines and current risk tolerance. Manage risk assessment of specialty products, complete audits, provide training, assist with creation of agent/product materials, etc. as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

* Responsible for the management of all underwriters, mentoring, providing the needed training for these associates and completion of performance reviews.

* Has authority to review applications for eligibility based on admitted health history, product, state or filing restrictions, MIB and any other source of information provided for review. Increased authority for Life face amounts >$250,000.

* Maintain positive relationships with our internal and external customers through effective Written and Verbal Communication skills, including agents, proposed insureds, and State Departments of Insurance.

* Process/underwrite specialty products, projects as assigned

* Complete audits on an as needed basis or permanent audits required like MIB, replacements, and monthly quality

* Responsibilities also include the maintenance of underwriting processes and process manuals

* Provide training both internally and externally, explaining products, compliance and state requirements to agents and field representatives

* Assist with creation of agent/product materials for product/guidelines communication

* Serves as the subject matter expert for lower level underwriters

* Reviews appeals made by proposed insureds of decisions made by lower level underwriters

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has supervisory duties.
Education and Experience:

* 4 year Bachelors Degree (Preferred)

* 5 or more years of experience (Preferred)

* In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

* FLMI and/or LOMA (Preferred)

Functional Skills:

* Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Strong analytical skills

* Attention to details

* Good prioritization of workload

* Ability to problem-solve across multiple underwriting aspects

* Must relate well to other departments that are involved in underwriting process

* Make recommendations for changes in policy to supervisor or other departments

* Be able to provide guidance to junior level underwriters

* Ability to provide oversite and leadership across all aspects of Underwriting Department

* Oversee management of all Underwriting department personnel and projects

Compensation offered for this role is$84,500.00-$149,750.00 per yearand is based on experience and qualifications.
