Growing Urology practice seeking new or experienced Medical Assistant professionals to join our fast-paced clinic in Highland and Merrillville. Candidates must possess a positive attitude and have interest in being part of a team focused on providing exceptional customer service.


The Medical Assistant is responsible for the performance of all duties relating to patient care processes in the Urology Clinic. The Medical Assistant must be able to communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner to personnel, patients and physicians. The position is task and detail oriented, with goal of providing quality patient care in relation to the patient’s prescribed diagnosis and treatment needs. The ability to provide documentation in electronic format is required.


Position Responsibilities

Assessment and Documentation of New Patient/Consult

  1. Review of patient history, inclusive of prior medical/surgical and urological history and thorough documentation completion, inclusive of assessment requirements in appropriate time frame
  2. Review of available information obtained by other health care team members internal and external
  3. Recognition of recent and prior diagnostic test results having relevance to patient current urological health history
  4. Provide urological educational requirements of the urological patient under direction of physician, Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse

Performance of nursing skills present in the urological clinic

  1. Knowledge of basic laboratory services and their requirements
  2. Prepare and collect laboratory specimens; ensure proper labeling and submission to external labs
  3. Perform basic laboratory tests
  4. Preparation and possible direct assistance of urological office procedures
  5. Vital signs
  6. Medication Administration injections, intravesical, oral under direct supervision of physician

Medical Assistant Competencies

  1. Communicate normal test results to patients
  2. Handle incoming scanned documents/test results; forward to necessary personnel and document accordingly
  3. Ability to cover triage messages in the event team lead is unavailable
  4. Fill in house pharmacies prescriptions
Requirements
  1. Ability to speak, read, and write English
  2. Ability to calculate basic math
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  4. Basic computer skills/knowledge and keyboarding skills
  5. Ability to work independently or as a team
  6. Must be able to multi-task, use critical thinking and problem solving skills and analyze complex data

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time
  2. Requires frequent bending, squatting, stooping or stretching
  3. Ability to perform proper body mechanics and have the ability to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair
  4. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
  5. Ability to lift 0-15 pounds without assistance
  6. Possess physical agility to respond in a quick manner and appropriately to respond to unexpected patient and family safety needs

Customer Service

  1. Professional communication with patients, families, physicians and institutional departments to achieve optimal urological care delivery as directed
  2. Assesses and anticipates patient and family response to urological treatment plan and provides for the necessary interventions
  3. Provides for timely communication to patients, families, physicians, and other staff members
  4. Recognizes and reports circumstances and situations not achieving patient/family satisfaction

Technology

  1. Provide for documentation electronic environment following established protocols
  2. Ensure responsibility of current passwords for required institutions and facilities
  3. E-prescribe applicable patients under the direct supervision of physician and within the company

Safety

  1. Follow safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above essential functions
  2. Follow standard precautions in the provision of patient care and implements other infection control measures as necessary
  3. Utilizes equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations and institutional policy
  4. Reports/documents unexpected occurrences involving patients and others as appropriate
  5. Follows facility specific emergency and disaster preparedness plans

Administrative Competencies

  1. Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines/regulations
  2. Maintains attire standards of the departmental dress code
  3. Observes and respects the confidentiality of information in regards to patients, doctors, and fellow employees
  4. Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes
  5. Cross trained to primary tasks of reception, medical records, and scheduling
Requirements:

Position Requirements

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. 1+ Years Medical Assistant experience preferred
  3. Fluency in speaking the Spanish language a plus
  4. High attention to detail with strong organizational, communication and analytical skills
  5. Relationship building
  6. Medical Assistant clinical skills
  7. Medical terminology and coding knowledge; ICD-10, CPT
  8. HIPAA compliance
  9. Ability to multi-task in a fast paced and high-volume environment
  10. EPIC knowledge preferred, not required
  11. Candidates must also be able to travel as needed to our other locations. Although position will mainly be based in Highland and Merrillville, employees must be able to travel as needed to Hobart or Valparaiso.
