The Database Administrator Senior/Lead architects, implements, maintains, tunes, and monitors all enterprise databases. The role participates in the design and creation of databases at both a data model and architect level, defines standards and design of physical data storage, maintenance of databases, and performs quality control and auditing of databases to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data. This position plays an integral role in the successful operations of MCSO by supporting data accuracy and availability.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information technology, or a related field.

Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience in database design, development, maintenance, administration, and support in a large-scale enterprise environment

OR

Combined education and experience qualifications

  • Other combinations of education or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year for year basis.

Other requirements

  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
  • Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.

Our Preferred Candidate has

  • Five years (5) experience as a Database Administrator with Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, Stored Procedures & Triggers, SSIS, SSRS, PowerShell, and Power BI.

Essential Job Tasks

  • Designs logical and physical databases to meet system requirements.
  • Establishes and monitors processes that extract data from or load data into databases.
  • Provides support, standards, and information relating to database back-ups, archiving, and data recovery.
  • Performs database and software life-cycle activities to ensure highest level of system performance and availability and compliance with business requirements.
  • Maintains archival copies of database-related files and information.
  • Provides documentation and support to users, development and operations staff, and management.
  • Writes, tests, and puts into production all tables, constraints, triggers, stored procedures and permissions.
  • Works with system programmers to create, enhance, and troubleshoot applications.
  • Monitors performance and database usage and adjusts as needed.
  • Maintains the integrity, security and availability of the databases.
  • Performs the process of database security in compliance with MCSO policy.
  • Provides physical model recommendations.
  • Provides escalation support for production and nonproduction databases; advises and assists other database administrators.
  • Collects and reports data as required for departmental statistics.
  • Performs high availability and disaster recovery - installation and configuration at database layer to include 3rd party applications and always on availability groups.
  • Assists management in evaluating technology issues, policies and procedures.
  • Is present at work site to perform tasks as scheduled or assigned by the supervisor.
