Responsibilities

Summary

Our Certified Medication Aide, under close supervision, assists in performing routine duties to include medications administration, inventory control and storage or pharmaceuticals items.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparing and administering prescribed medications to patients under the supervision of a licensed RN, and in compliance with all Facility policies and procedures and Pharmacy Board rules and regulations.
  • Adhering to all Facility policies and procedures and Pharmacy Board rules and regulations regarding the administration and documentation of narcotic medications.
  • Performing medication administration responsibilities while adhering to all safety principles.
  • Documenting administration of medication on the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
  • Documenting medications not administered on the MAR, and the reason for not being administered.
  • Distributes and administers medication abiding by the rules and regulations of the Health and Safety Code, Chapter 242, Subchapter F, "Licensing Standards for Medication Aides."
  • Applies knowledge of drugs and therapeutics in dispensing medication.
  • Enters medication compliance into pharmacy computer system if applicable. Ensures that prescribed medications are administered as ordered, using the formulary.
  • Assists the physician with sick call and setting up for minor surgical procedures.
  • Observes and reports changes in patient's condition; assists the physician or nurse with procedures under their direct supervision.
  • Assists in the maintenance of a safe, comfortable facility environment; obtains, stores and maintains nursing supplies; cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
  • Practices basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • Current Certified Medication Aide Permit required in the state within services are provided. Must maintain a current copy of the permit on file in the facility at all times.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of full-time wage-earning experience as a Certified Medication Aide.
  • Must have current CPR Certification.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license. (Oklahoma State Requirement).
