Job Description

Job Description

Snap Judgment, an award-winning radio show and podcast (heard weekly on more than 500 public radio stations across the US and downloaded two million times every month) is looking for a Story Producer for its spin-off podcast, Spooked. Spooked is a production of Snap Studios and KQED.

Spooked features true-life supernatural stories, told firsthand by people who can barely believe it happened themselves. Be afraid! Spooked episodes garner over one million monthly podcast downloads and are broadcast on Snap Judgment each autumn, as stations host Spooked marathons across the nation. Spooked drops Apple Podcasts chart-topping releases that dominate the Arts category all autumn, but fans listen all year long. The show has been featured in Rolling Stone, Vulture, and The Atlantic, and has appeared on Spotify's list of “Best Podcast Episodes of 2022.”

The Story Producer is in charge of pitching, producing, and editing original stories in the realm of paranormal and supernatural activity. The ideal candidate has both audio production experience and a strong understanding of the Spooked narrative storytelling space. The producer reports to the Managing Editor. While some of the Spooked team operates remotely, producers who live in the Bay Area are required to participate in some in-person meetings at KQED.

KQED envisions a public media organization with a culture that centers on human dignity, equity, and belonging. This will enable us to better serve and reflect the Bay Area through diverse and inclusive storytelling.

We value the contributions of marginalized people in society — including Black, Indigenous, and all people of color,  people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ people — and we believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do, and we strongly encourage members of these communities to apply.

KQED Code of Ethics  https://www.kqed.org/about/code-ethics

The mission that drives us:

KQED provides citizens of Northern California with a community-supported alternative to commercial media.   We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas.
