SUMMARY

The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and tracking the status of Environmental Health & Safety programs, targets and objectives.  The following duties will be performed with an emphasis on completing multiple tasks on a daily basis.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The EH & S Manager shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following;

 

General Responsibilities

·     Assist in development and implementation of the company’s environmental, health and safety program.

·     Conduct JHA/JSA to reduce employee risk.

·     Assist in the development of EHS planning for company operations, including A3’s -Analyzes the impact of safety and environmental compliance on proposed projects/new launches at plant(s) level.

·     Serves as the principal community liaison and plant representative with all local, state and federal regulatory agencies at Kendallville Plants (1-3).

·     Maintains consistency for all environmental, health, and safety, efforts at Kendallville Plants (1-3).

·     Maintains and monitors metrics to gauge effectiveness at plant level EHS programs.

·     Serves as plant level resource for directing, reviewing and reporting on ecological factors impacting the companies environmental policy statement.

·     Research all Federal, State and Local standards and regulations for clarification and compliance.

·     Completes training for all employees at plant level to meet objectives for environmental, health and safety requirements. 

·     Reviews and revises policies to ensure compliance.

·     Serves as a resource for plant level management.

 

Environmental

 

·     Serves as plant level environmental management system (EMS) representative.

·     Facilitates and coordinates ISO14001 Certifications for plant #1-3.

·     Assists with Aspect and Impact sheet and reviews with the plant level management at a minimum of one time per year.

·     Monitors EMS Programs with Plant Management Team.

·     Identifies and manages the recycling process for each line of waste.

·     Assists plant management in setting annual EMS goals and objectives through management review.

·     Reviews the EMS to ensure its continuing effectiveness through management review.

·     Follows up on open EMS corrective actions and ensures they are closed out.

·     Maintains a thorough understanding of air, waste, water, hazardous waste/universal waste and related laws/regulations.

·     Conducts regular evaluations of the impact of plants #1-3 products, facilities and operations on the environment.

·     Maintains StormWater operator certification.

 

Safety

 

·     Coordinate OSHA mandated annual audiometry testing where necessary. 

·     Maintains and monitors contractor safety program through contractor safety training minimum annually.

·     Asses and maintains all SDS’ for Plants #1-3, reviews annually.

·     Addresses in a timely fashion all requests to evaluate air quality, illumination standards, respiratory protection and/or hearing conservation issues in the workplace.

·     Initiates and communicates occupational investigations to ensure that the work places are free of hazards.

·     Conduct noise, light and air testing as needed may require third party.

·     Works with personnel on the floor and plant management to improve workplace safety and reduce waste.

·     Serves as initial contact and advisor to all internal and external response teams/emergency services.

·     Conducts various training classes (i.e.Incident Investigation, New Hire Orientation, Forklift Certification, LOTO, 5 Why’s, Annual Emergency Training, Emergency Response, HazCom/GHS, PPE,etc.)

·     Manages incident reporting and investigations.

·     Ensures policies/procedures established to have a consistent and cost effective approach.

·     Conducts audits of EHS programs with core team.

·     Participates in internal and external audit processes for EHS.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

*Associates Degree in Engineering, EH & S or related field preferred or a minimum of 3 - 5 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·       Must be proficient in MS Office Software and Microsoft Outlook.

·       Must be able to work in both individual and team environments.

·       Must be self motivated and goal driven…proactive and works for results.

·       Ability to work in a fast paced, high energy environment.

·       Must have a positive attitude and hard work ethic.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are typical to standard office and manufacturing floor settings with moderate noise levels and high level of activity.  The work will mostly be in a manufacturing environment with occasional work in a climate-controlled environment.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and fumes.  The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
