Pay Range

Engineers hired at tier III DOE will be compensated at a range of $76,500 - $113,500.00

Engineers hired at tier IV DOE will be compensated at a range of $86,000.00 - $125,500.00

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

We are actively seeking engineers of all levels to join the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, where you can make a significant impact in protecting communities from flooding. As an engineer in our district, you'll have the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of tasks, including FLO-2D modeling, hydrology and hydraulics modeling, river mechanics, dam safety, and designing and implementing cutting-edge flood control infrastructure.

We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related engineering discipline such as, but not limited to, Civil, Geology, Hydrology, Water Resources, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering

  • Three years of progressively responsible professional civil engineering work experience in hydrologic and hydraulic surface water modeling; OR

  • One year of civil engineering work and two years of direct work experience in dam safety, dam technology, geotechnical engineering, or professional geology work

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE)

  • Three years of experience using FLO-2D, HEC-RAS 1D and 2D and ArcGIS/ArcPro

Engineer III has in-depth engineering hydrology and water resources knowledge and can perform technical and professional engineering analyses on complex projects

Engineer IV is a senior-level engineer with more than five years of in-depth technical expertise who may have a field of specialization and may also supervise and evaluate the work done by junior-level Engineers.

Job Contributions

  • Perform, review, and approve designs, models, plans, and/or permits to ensure they meet District or regulatory standards

  • Perform in-house studies/analyses/modeling related to 1D and 2D modeling to support various programs using FLO-2D Pro, SWMM, HEC-RAS 2D, HEC-RAS 1D, and other modeling software

  • Use the knowledge of ArcGIS/ArcPro to create figures, manage data, perform spatial analysis, and create scripts to automate tasks

  • Prepare project descriptions, budgets, and schedules for prioritization and inclusion of projects in the District's budget projections. Manage consultant contracts

  • Coordinate with cities and public agencies; prepare and negotiate Intergovernmental Agreements; make project presentations, project authorization requests, and status reports to staff, boards, and councils

Working Conditions

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree

  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation

  • ArcGIS/ArcPro, FLO-2D Pro, SWMM, HEC-RAS 2D, HEC-RAS 1D, and other modeling software

  • As needed for fieldwork
