Job Description Job Title: Medical Assistant Department: Orthopedics Reports to: Office Supervisor Position Level: 6C Job Summary: This full- time position is for an experienced Medical Assistant for our Orthopaedic Department .This position requires travel to multiple locations This role is responsible for assisting providers and managing clinical functions within the department. Must have great customer service, able to work in a high volume clinic able to multi-task .Orthopedics experience required, casting/ bracing. Travel : Wesley Chapel, Zephyrhills, Tampa, Brandon Essential Functions of the Position: 1 Year experience. Prepares e-chart prior to visit Prints encounter form, demographic verification form (DVF), other necessary forms per patient or provider Verifies eligibility of insurance Ensures referral is present if needed Completes patient verification processes Verify photo ID is scanned into Intergy Verify all records are properly received for all Worker’s Compensation patients Verify all payments are received for all pre-pay appointments Verify patient’s copay and denote if they are in a global period Updates patient demographics as needed, including insurance and preferred pharmacy. Alert front desk of insurance issues, payment information or any problems with patient’s account Enters referral authorization information into Practice Management System Assist traffic at front window Manages sign in sheets Schedules appointments Takes messages Assists with medication refill requests Handles customer requests or needs Assists vendors Monitors the lobby for cleanliness and patients in distress Daily logging of diagnostic films from outside facilities Notifies MA or nurse when patient is ready Records “no show” appointments in the system Collects co-payment amounts Collects patient balance dues Balances journal and locks it Secures deposit and imprest funds Prints next day appointment schedules Post “no show” fees for any Worker’s Compensation appointments Addresses Intergy tasks in a timely manner Answers phones and assists callers Properly room patients and assists Provider with treatment Takes and records vitals and updates IEHR Confirms information required by provider is present (labs, hospital records, etc.) Updates IEHR (allergies, medications, history, etc.) Prepares exam room Prepares patient for examination or treatment Obtains informed consents and ABN as necessary Flags provider when patient is ready Assists provider with completion of forms requested by patients Properly documents patient chief complaints and medical history Proper ordering of x-rays in RIS system per physician protocol Applies braces and splints as ordered by physician Uses proper technique in applying casts Prepares specimens and requisitions for lab Performs dressing changes, removal of sutures, staples and pain pumps Assists provider with in office procedures and complete all necessary orders as instructed by physician Addresses and handles all tasks, as well as monitoring provider’s tasks Returns messages Notifies patients of test results and instructions from provider Schedules follow up appointments Enters referral information into the Practice Management System for referral tracking Makes follow up calls to check on patients post procedure as indicated by provider or office protocol Triages patient calls and needs Distributes, reviews and teaches patient education Prepares charts Acquires all medical records necessary for visit Makes sure all ordered tests have been performed and results are present Reviews chart and drug inventory to ensure drug is available Prepares all pre-op charts Additional Responsibilities: Maintains an organized and clean work area Directs incoming faxes and mail to correct staff members Monitors and timely responds to practice portal requests Participates in maintenance of office supplies Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned Organizes and maintains sample and supply closets Physical and Mental Demands: Normal physical ability Normal concentration and normal complexity of decision making High level verbal and written communication skills Above average ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously Occupational Exposure: High risk exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemical hazards Job Qualifications: High school graduate or GED equivalent Completion of MA certification program preferred Strong customer service orientation Excellent telephone etiquette Basic computer proficiency Strong team player
