Position Title Principal Investigator - Archaeologist

Job Summary

AECOM is looking for an experienced full-time, permanent Principal Investigator to join our Cultural Resources team. The position will be based out of our Cincinnati, Ohio or Louisville, KY office, but assigned projects will be located at various locations throughout the Northeast and Midwest, with the potential for occasional work in other regions. The position will require the management of archaeological projects, both in the field and the office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising all aspects of archaeological survey, site recording and evaluations and archaeological testing and data recovery

  • Preparing scopes of work and budgets

  • Coordinating and communicating with representatives from various local, state, and federal agencies

  • Working independently under the direction of the department lead or supervising project manager

  • Analyzing and documenting prehistoric and historic sites and artifacts

  • Completing other duties that may include office work associated with cultural resources management and marketing

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field, and SOI qualified as a Principal Investigator

  • 4+ years of experience managing cultural resource inventories/field work

  • Knowledge of North American Archaeology; Prehistory; History; Artifact Analysis; Historic Preservation; Secretary of the Interior Standards for Archaeology; National Register of Historic Places eligibility criteria; Archival Research techniques; Familiarity with federal and state laws and regulations for cultural resources and historic preservation including, but not limited to, Section 106, NEPA, and Section 4(f).

  • Ability to communicate with team members and clients and successfully participate in report writing and data collection

  • Ability to work in difficult conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, and hot, humid environments)

  • Possess computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel to project locations

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field`

  • 5+ years of experience conducting cultural resource inventories/field work

  • Field experience including reconnaissance, survey, testing and site mitigation in the Northeast and Midwest United States, particularly Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee

  • Register of Professional Archaeologists certified

  • Experience in project data tracking and project financial metric management

  • Experience directly overseeing and coordinating project staff on field projects and administratively
