PRIMARY PURPOSE: (Position Summary)
Under direct and constant supervision or supervision and control, learns all aspects of laboratory testing in one or more section of laboratory and assists licensed personnel by performing certain limited duties as permitted under CABPC 1269.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Baccalaureate degree in Biology or related science. Course work must meet the trainee requirements of the California Department of Health Services.
Basic college-level science coursework.
California Clinical Laboratory Scientist Trainee License is required
Knowledge:
LEARNING SKILLS
1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
2. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
3. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
1. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
2. Ability to compute rate, rate ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
3. Ability to perform basic statistical functions.
REASONING ABILITY
1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
2. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS
1. Ability to work with laboratory information system.
2. Knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word and EXCEL
