PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Circulatory Support Technician- Level 1, possesses the knowledge and skills to ensure an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment are readily available for perfusion and blood salvage devices, including but not limited to cardiopulmonary bypass and autotransfusion machines, in the operating room environment. This position works in collaboration with other circulatory support technicians, perfusionists, nurses, anesthesiologists, surgeons and other members of the patient care team in promoting cost effective use of medical center resources. The Level 1 Circulatory Support Technician is competent to perform autologous blood salvage in the operating room for both pediatric and adult patients under the direction of the surgeon, anesthesiologist and/ or perfusionist.

Education/ Knowledge/ Skills:

1. High school diploma or equivalent. Two years minimum of college or equivalent with emphasis in the sciences- biology and mathematics preferred.

2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including full command of the English language. Active listening skills are essential to support team performance.

3. Self- motivated to learn new skills and progress to Level II and Level III Circulatory Support Technician classifications.

4. Demonstrates maturity, reliability and a professional manner when working with others.

5. Effectively performs during stressful situations and maintaining composure is a fundamental requirement.

6. CPR certification is required and must be completed within 30 days of employment and maintained every 2 years.

7. Operational knowledge of computers and various software applications strongly preferred.

8. Operational knowledge of medical terminology and mathematics strongly preferred.

9. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, especially in an emergency, and practice excellent body mechanics.

10. Possesses the physical dexterity and perceptual acuity (e.g. visual, hearing, etc.) to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect job requirements.

11. Ability to work under stress, accurately perform multiple tasks simultaneously and possesses good judgment.

12. Operational knowledge of sterile technique preferred.

13. Performs duties with minimal supervision.

14. Experience working in a hospital environment preferred.
