Department Function:

Care Data Analysis (UCDA) was created to ensure that analysts and researchers throughout Kaiser Permanente are able to fully realize the analytical potential of KP HealthConnect and other KP enterprise-level information systems to further KP's mission: improving the health of our members and the communities we serve.

Intern Project Description:

This role could include one or more of the following activities:

* Analyze large geospatial datasets such as census, transit, consumer behavior, and business locations to understand geographic variation in health outcomes and preventive care and measure changes.

* Communicate analysis results through static maps and interactive web maps, visualizations, and information design.

* Gather requirements and provide technical assistance for ad-hoc mapping projects.

* Update training materials to support understanding of geospatial capabilities within Kaiser Permanente.

* Prototype options for self-service reporting and visualization.

* Test geospatial offerings to verify usability and accuracy.

Desired Skill Set:

* Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, computer science, City and Regional planning or a related field with a 3.0 GPA or above

* Knowledge of ArcGIS applications, including ArcGIS Server web APIs, ArcGIS Online/Portal for ArcGIS, and ModelBuilder/Geoprocessing for data management and spatial analytics

* Light coding skills (e.g., Python, JavaScript)

* Practical experience and/or coursework in GIS applications for population-based reporting and analysis

* High comfort level with technology and experience with technical aspects of spatial data management

* Analytical and detail oriented Competencies

* Demonstrated cartographic skills

* Experience in analytical environments such as SAS, SPSS, or R.

* Experience with open source GIS tools and data sources

* Proven technical research, writing, and editing skills to generate project summaries, draft documents, conduct topic specific research

* Effective verbal and written communication skills

* Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

* Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.

* Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to learn quickly and experience producing high quality work in short periods of time.
