POSITION SUMMARY: Perform the duties in Urgent Care required to provide support for providers in all aspects of patient care under the supervision of a physician, physician's assistant, nurse practitioner or licensed nurse which will meet the specific needs of the patient(s) presenting for care.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent, Graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant Program required.

Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years experience in an emergency department, urgent care or other clinical setting.

Skills and Abilities: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

  • Ability to perform accurate blood drawing techniques.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing schedules.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to be a quick thinker and relate to all levels of staff and patients.
  • Team-oriented, energetic with strong customer service skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience required.

License(s)/Certification(s) Required:

  • Certificate from Medical Assistant Training program.
  • CPR Certification.

Essential Functions

  • Performs patient intake (i.e. blood pressures, temperatures, pulse, respirations, weights and measurements) on patients for medical examination.
  • Accurately document chief complaints, vital signs, weight, brief history, past history, family and social history, current mediations, allergies and other pertinent historical information as appropriate.
  • Performs tests (i.e. blood glucose test, urine dipstick, pulse oximetry, vision tests, hearing screens and EKGs).
  • Notifies Provider and/or Clinic Nurse Coordinator of abnormal vital signs, blood glucose, hearing and vision abnormalities and/ or EKG results.
  • Complete tasks as assigned with licensed oversight, i.e. eye lavages, ear irrigation, ace wraps, suture or staple removal from superficial incisions or lacerations, etc.
  • Gives medications/immunizations as ordered per route (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and sub-dermal).
  • Prepares, maintains exam rooms assuring that they are cleaned and stocked; performs sterilization of instruments.
  • Adhere to infection control/safety guidelines and patient confidentiality policies.
  • Responsible for general office procedures (i.e. venipunctures, dressing changes and nebulizer treatments).
  • Operate diagnostic equipment but cannot interpret tests.
  • Perform CPR and render first aid in an emergency.
  • Ensure that equipment is in proper working order and report any malfunction to the Director of Health Center Operations or Physician on duty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Position may require travel to other area sites due to staffing needs
