Do you have a job interview at Kohl's soon? Way to go! The best thing to do before the big day is to practice common job interview questions and prepare your answers to them. A great way to do this is by sitting down with a friend or family member and doing a mock interview. That way, you'll have your answers ready and refined for the real interview.
Most likely, you'll be competing for a sales associate position. They'll probably ask you questions related to customer service and your experiences in other work environments. Some common questions include:
1) Why do you want to work at Kohl's?
Take advantage of this question by displaying your passion for Kohl's and the research you've done on the company. Show off your knowledge about their products and your excitement for the company's values.
"I admire how Kohl's puts their customers first, acts with integrity, builds great teams and drives results. I would love to be a part of a team that prioritizes their customers and works hard for everyone's fulfillment."
2) What does "the customer is always right" mean to you?
Employers want to be sure that you are committed to satisfying customers, no matter what their complaints are. Even if the customer may seemingly be wrong, it's the duty of Kohl's employees to accept responsibility for the situation and work for the best solution.
"I would listen attentively to every customer and meet their needs, regardless of the request or complaint. I wouldn't argue or assert myself; instead, I'd humbly allow them to be right and help them in whatever way."
3) Do you have any experience working in retail?
The interviewer just wants to know if you have ever worked in an environment like Kohl's and whether you have prior experience and skill within retail.
"This is my first job working in retail. However, I'm a loyal customer and visit the store very often. Also, I try to stay up to date with the latest fashions and frequently browse Kohl's magazines to know what is being advertised."
4) If you saw a friend or coworker doing something illegal, what would you do?
This question is intended to determine your ethical standards. In this situation, the interviewer would want you to answer by saying that you would report the friend or coworker to an authority.
"It would be my ethical responsibility to report them to an authority. If I saw a coworker doing something illegal, I would tell my manager so that they could effectively handle the situation."
5) How did you deal with a hard situation at a previous job?
The interviewer is trying to figure out how you handle conflict and stress. Answer honestly, but be sure to highlight your conflict management skills.
"In a previous job, I once had a conflict with a co-worker who took my shift but then didn't show up for it. My manager blamed me, but instead of getting frustrated, I came into work and calmly explained the situation to my manager. She understood and helped me address the co-worker honestly and fairly."
