Controls Electrical Engineer
LHH Recruitment Solutions is hiring a Controls Electrical Engineer for a full-time position at our heavy metal manufacturing facility in Tusculum, TN area. Due to the company’s rapid growth, this is an excellent opportunity for someone to evolve into a leadership role and become a true business partner. Relocation assistance is available for candidates outside of the area.
The Controls Electrical Engineer will provide controls/electrical engineering services to integrate mechanical systems, electronic controls and computer science to design and create new production and manufacturing equipment and processes for the facility and its customers.
Primary focus is to specify, design and manage the installation of capital projects to improve plant equipment and processes for increased productivity, reliability and reduced operating costs.
Secondary focus is to provide technical support to operations/facility for repair, modifications and upgrades of existing equipment, processes, infrastructure and building and grounds.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Research, specify and design new or improved processes and equipment.
Provide cost estimates, equipment layouts, design prints and time schedules for the installation of new processes, machines and equipment.
Write and implement PLC programs (specifically Control Logix System), HMIs, microcontrollers, servo drives and vision systems.
Research, select and apply sensors, communication technologies, or control devices for motion control, position sensing, pressure sensing or electronic communication.
Create electrical drawings using CAD software.
Represent engineering on cross-functional teams.
Provide technical support to operations, maintenance and lab personnel in maintaining production equipment, laboratory equipment and building and grounds.
Work with production supervision and personnel to improve production processes and equipment.
Work with production personnel to maintain machine performance to ensure quality output.
Work with production and maintenance supervision/personnel to ensure compliance with all safety codes and regulations.
Secondary Functions
Provide technical assistance to Metallurgical Lab personnel in the specification and implementation of new equipment and instrumentation to improve metal quality.
Provide technical assistance to Chemical Lab personnel in the specification and implementation of new equipment and instrumentation to measure product quality.
Provide technical direction to electricians in maintaining plant electrical equipment and instrumentation.
Secure outside electricians to assist in project work and maintenance of plant electrical distribution system.
Assist maintenance by transferring project engineering information for newly installed equipment.
Assist with the technical evaluations of electrical machinery and devices following catastrophic failure.
Participate in and provide technical support to quality improvement teams.
Provide monthly review of activities and issues.
Education / Experience / Skills:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.
5+ years experience with large DC motor drive systems, computer network systems & wiring, and process control theory in a metalworking manufacturing environment.
Prior success applying machine control equipment, process control instrumentation and associated software.
Must be competent in the application of OHSA, EPA, and other health & safety regulations.
Write and implement PLC programs (specifically Control Logix System), HMIs, microcontrollers, servo drives, and vision systems. Must be proficient in RS Logix 5000 Enterprise Series software.
Prior success applying automation theory, electrical circuits, electrical and mechanical drawings, and simulation software.
Design advanced electronic control systems for mechanical systems.
Maintain technical project files.
Design advanced precision equipment for accurate or controlled applications.
Research, select, and apply sensors, communication technologies, or control devices for motion control, position sensing, pressure sensing or electronic communication.
Design, develop or implement control circuits or algorithms for electromechanical or pneumatic devices or systems.
Create mechanical and electrical drawings using CAD software.
