Description

The Leidos National Security Sector needs a Research Scientist to assist the Combat Capabilities Development Command-Chemical Biological Center- Threat Agent Sciences Division in basic and applied research efforts for development, test, and evaluation of novel military specific chemical and biological products. This exciting opportunity to perform research and development is located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland and research will support development, test and evaluation of novel materials, equipment, and method applications for chemical and biological protection of the U.S. warfighter. Specific efforts will include development of catalytic materials and other novel products to further advance chemical and biological defense products. Research is focused on developing chemical and biological decontamination products / materials that promote effective decontamination of military assets and offers the best support to our Nations warfighters to ensure battlefield dominance during a chemical and/or biological event.

Primary Responsibilities are as follows:

•Function as team member supporting DEVCOM CBC Projects under the direction of a Government Research Principal Investigator.
•Operate and maintain analytical equipment such as Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), Gas Chromatograph-Mass Selective Detector (GC-MSD), High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Quartz crystal balance (QCM), and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS).
•Research and develop new materials, such as new catalysts.
•Support development of Scientific Technical Information (STI), via DEVCOM CBC Technical Report publication.
•Perform work in accordance with published processes and procedures.

Basic Qualifications are as follows:

•Master’s degree in chemistry or related field with at least 2-3 years relative experience or Doctorate in chemistry or related field with 0-1 year relative experience.
•Must be able to obtain DoD Secret Clearance.
•Must have ability to work independently with minimal oversight. 
•Ability to wear laboratory personal protective equipment.

Preferred Qualifications include:

•Experience working with chemical warfare agents (CWAs), toxic industrial chemicals (TICs), and/or toxic industrial materials (TIMs).
•Demonstrated experience with LabView.
•Demonstrated experience ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems.

Pay Range:Pay Range $65,000.00 - $117,500.00
