Purpose

Under limited supervision, work with management to prepare and finalize documents for remote sensing projects, including but not limited to Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Lidar / photogrammetry projects, terrestrial mobile mapping, volume calculations, data extractions, and 3D modeling, in accordance with company standards, municipal/jurisdictional requirements, survey standards, and client requirements.  Calculate mapmaking information and create maps from source data, such as surveying notes, aerial photography, satellite data, or other maps. Verify accuracy and completeness of topographical maps. 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive broad guidance relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially on highly complex assignments. Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Process, register, analyze, and provide QA/QC of internally collected mobile and UAS aerial LiDAR and photogrammetry data. 

Do the Work

  • Process trajectory information and LiDAR sensor data into usable point clouds, including adjustment to project specific survey datums, quality control and reporting. 
  • Compile mapping features from photogrammetry, mobile and terrestrial LiDAR point clouds for topographic surveys. 
  • Perform in-depth point cloud classifications. 
  • Quality management of data collection, post processing, adjustments, final product creation, and client project requirements. 
  • Under direct supervision, convert all applicable information into electronically generated drawings and project documents with accuracy, neatness, and speed. 
  • Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to start and complete projects with limited supervision. 
  • Identify data inconsistencies and communicate with the appropriate resources to provide accurate data updates as needed. 
  • Ensure quality standards for data collection, post processing, adjustments, final product creation, and client project requirements are met.

Education, Work Experience, Licensure/Certifications, and Technical Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required, associate’s degree preferred. 
  • Five or more (5+) years of similar survey and mapping experience in the land survey industry. 
  • FAA Part 107 license preferred. 
  • Civil3D, MicroStation, Terrasolid, TopoDOT, PLS-CADD and other 3D Modeling Software experience required. 
  • Proficient in ArcGIS, Global Mapper, or other GIS software. 
  • Ability to learn and teach basic design concepts and technical calculations. 
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures. 
  • Relevant survey license a plus.   

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
