Fleet Technician South Florida Water Management District Clewiston, FL Performs a wide range of services to diagnose and repair District Heavy Duty Fleet units including but not limited to Excavators, Low boys, Tractors, and diesel engines for the various Clewiston Field Station equipment. Other duties as assigned. This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing Work hours are Monday - Thursday from 6:30 am - 5:00 pm. Employment Guidelines (May be filled as Fleet Mechanic) Fleet Technician: High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years of experience in servicing, diagnosing, and repairing cars, trucks, diesel engines, and equipment. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with a manual transmission and air brakes and tanker endorsement, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire and/or placement in job. If a candidate does not have a CDL License, you will be required to obtain a Class A CDL Learner’s Permit within 60 days of the start date. The district will provide in-house cross training as well as pay for CDL School Training. Fleet Mechanic: High School Diploma or GED an. 2+ years of experience in servicing, diagnosing, and repairing cars, trucks, diesel engines, and equipment. Or specialized training certifications or degrees in automotive and construction equipment technologies. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Valid Florida Driver’s License (Class E). Must obtain a valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with airbrakes and manual transmission and tanker endorsement within two years from date of hire. The district is willing to pay the cost of CDL training program. Certifications: Fleet Technician: Must maintain a total of four (4) valid ASE certifications between the three specialties listed below. Fleet Mechanic: Will have 2 years from date of hire to obtain ASE certifications between the three specialties listed below. Automotive: engine repair, automatic transmission/ transaxle, manual drive train and axle, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical/ electronic system, heating and air conditioning, engine performance Medium/Heavy Truck: gasoline engine, diesel engine, drive train, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/ electronic system, heating and air conditioning, preventative maintenance inspection Auto Maintenance and Light Repair: Ability to obtain and maintain certification in overhead crane, forklift operations (reevaluation every year), First Aid/CPR/AED (recertification every two years). This position is required to participate in the Pumping Operations Program as either a Pump Station Assistant (PSA) or a Pump Station Operator (PSO). (Required) Physical Requirement Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions. Part of the work may be performed in the field with regular exposure to unpredictable weather conditions, responding to mechanical breakdowns and part inside garage bay with circulating air; some exposure to sun, heat, and rain when performing repairs outside the shop. Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests, and operates equipment to complete assignments. The work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
