Electrician – Industrial South Florida Water management District West Palm Beach, FL This position is being reposted. Performs maintenance on structures and facilities within the West Palm Beach Field Station’s area of responsibility. Installs, repairs and maintains electrical and electronic components of District buildings, equipment and machinery, following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematic diagrams and blueprints. As resident electrical expert, trains electrical personnel in new electrical advances, National Electrical Code updates and interpretations, technical direction, and performs technical reviews on electrical drawings. Safely performs all associated tasks with the construction and maintenance of all MV facilities including MV substations, MV transmission & distribution. Works on energized or non-energized power lines, cables, and equipment. Works inside pumping station and field stations, including confined spaces. Other duties as assigned. This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing. Working hours are Monday – Thursday from 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Employment Guidelines May be filled as Industrial Electrician or Electrician. Industrial Electrician-Medium Voltage: High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years' experience working with medium voltage systems and preferably have completed a line specialist accredited apprenticeship program from a recognized and certified utility, contractor or school and be able to provide a verifiable certification of completion. Industrial Electrician: High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years' experience as a Licensed Journeyman Electrician. Electrician: High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years' experience as an electrician apprentice or training, including two (2) years under the direction of a Licensed Journeyman Electrician. Job Summary and Accountabilities Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of 5KV and higher distribution and pump control systems to include: cable splicing utilizing heat and cold shrink stress cones, High Pot Testing to determine condition of cables and splices, medium voltage switchgear maintenance procedures including, shutdowns utilizing proper lock out / tag out and grounding, racking and un-racking of various types of medium voltage breakers, and 4160 variable frequency drive controlled pumping systems utilizing discreet and analog controls. Must be able to safely trouble shoot and repair all distribution circuits and equipment and be proficient with live line maintenance, including the use of hot sticks and gloving procedures. Physical Requirements Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. On-Call status may be required for electrical breakdowns and troubleshooting. Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions. Extensive Exertion plus travel: Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipment to complete assignments. The work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities.
