Description:

Integrated Atmospherics is currently seeking a part-time Weather Observer for our Los Alamitos, CA location. Hourly pay is $35.12 per hour, plus Health & Welfare hourly rate of $5.00 per hour. Night differential is compounded to base pay. Duties may include nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime. The schedule is determined by the Site Manager and will vary as operational needs dictate. The candidate can expect 8+ hours per week.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs Meteorological Weather Watch, taking, evaluating, recording, encoding, and disseminating surface weather observations (METAR / SPECI) per the AFMAN 15-111.
  • Performs eyes forward for the servicing Operational Weather Squadron (OWS).
  • Disseminates weather warnings and advisories as directed by the OWS and issues observed warnings and advisors as criteria dictates.
  • Answers Pilot to Metro Circuit and relays Pilot Reports as necessary.
  • Performs a Cooperative Weather Watch with Air Traffic Control personnel.
  • Performs daily quality control functions, routine equipment maintenance, Operational Reporting (OPREP) and maintains station logs and forms.
  • Performs additional administrative and training functions as assigned by the Contract Manager and/or Senior Observer.
  • Candidate is advised operations may include nights, weekends, and holidays. The work schedule will be determined by the Senior Observer.

Minimum QUALIFICATION AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must have at least 2 years' experience as a Department of Defense or Federal Aviation Administration certified weather observer in taking, recording, and disseminating METAR/SPECI surface weather observations.
  • Distant vision of at least 20/30 (Snellen) in at least one eye, corrected if necessary.
  • Adequate training commensurate with the complexity and scope of the contract.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate the FMQ-19, Joint Environmental Toolkit (JET), Kestrel and perform all the tasks required of the Performance Work Statement, AFMAN 15-111 and AFMAN 15-129V2.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be proficient with computer systems/software to include MS Word and Excel.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Persons currently holding an active CAC ID and/or recent background check completed at the T1 level or higher (previous 2-years).
  • Experience with PIREPS, PMSV, and interpretation of satellite and radar imagery.
  • Experience performing weather observations per AFMAN 15-111 guidelines.
  • Prior experience with the FMQ-19, JET, and Kestrel.
  • Previous completion of a formal weather technical school.
