Primary Purpose:

To stand up a centralized coding function within Tallgrass and oversee, train, and educate coders. This position will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the Centralized Coding function.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Corporate Accounting Manager(s) and AP Supervisor(s) to design and implement centralized coding processes as well as develop and maintain a Center of Excellence for field, projects and other departmental coding.
  • Develop and deliver training/coaching to employees performing coding to drive process consistency across Tallgrass, to ensure consistent cost recording, driving improved cost analysis and budgeting processes.
  • Manage the accounts payable coding process by coding and processing invoices and assisting with coding requirements for purchase orders
  • Lead through the change from decentralized accounts payable shared services to a centralized accounts payable shared services approach.
  • Responsible for understanding consistent Tallgrass coding processes and procedures for all expenditure types (expense, AFE, POs).
  • Drive consistency, minimize coding errors and reduce time spend coding across departments.
  • Continuously evaluate, enhance, improve processes.
  • Serve as a key participant in groups responsible for executing automation and process improvements across the finance and accounting functions.
  • Work with internal customers to get invoices coded timely to allow for timely payments and to avoid late fees.
  • Performs quality reviews to ensure coding is accurate and adheres to GAAP and FERC GL coding and accounting requirements.
  • Responsible for the coaching and performance management of any direct reports.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and a point of contact for invoice, purchase order, business development, and other required cost coding across departments.
  • Develops and maintains strong and positive relationships and open communication with team members and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Deals with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Supports the development and integration of processes and procedures to enhance efficiency.
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual management reports.
  • Provides support for inquiries and special requests from management, auditors and others.
  • Ensures compliance with internal control environment.
  • Speaks clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and active listening.
  • Maintains a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • Direct work experience in Accounts Payable, coding and/or Accounting may be considered as a substitute for a degree.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of three (3) years coding experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of previous supervisory experience that includes coaching / training.
  • Must have a strong understanding of the General Ledger
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but is not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) coding beneficial.
  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks, work both independently and in a team environment, and grasp concepts quickly.
  • Bilingual Spanish beneficial.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of modern, professional accounting principles and practices
  • Familiarity with expense, AFE and PO coding processes.
  • Centralized Coding and Accounts Payable experience, 10-Key calculator, basis PC Skills.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in the organization.
  • Must be able to work with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Strong planning, organizational, presentation, report writing and overall management skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.

  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
