Salary:

Family Practice Center, P.C., is currently seeking a Full-Time Physician Assistant for our Selinsgrove/ Mount Pleasant Mills office.  Experienced Providers and new grads are encouraged to apply.  Family Practice Center is a large group of primary care physicians in Central PA.  We offer a wide range of services including family medicine, pediatrics, counseling services, onsite lab and x-ray, and much more.  Family Practice operates 40 office locations in 14 Central PA counties.  Family Practice offers a competitive total compensation package, as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, FSA, disability, life, and 401(k).  EOE


Qualifications:

  Education: BS or Masters Degree

  Certification/Licensure:  NCCPA Board Certification


General Summary of Duties:  Perform under the responsibility and supervision of the physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his/her services through the more effective to plan therapy.  He/She may assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician.


Supervision Received:  Under the direct or telephonic supervision of MD or DO


Supervision Exercised:  None, but will assist in directing staff on needed duties when required 


Typical Physical Demands:  Being able to sit and stand for extended periods of time; capable of adapting to a fast paced office environment; may need to assist in lifting or positioning patients of all sizes; vision correctable to 20/20 and hearing within normal range


Examples of Duties – to include but not limited to:

  1. To assist the physician in the care and evaluation of patients, the PA will:
  2. Perform and record history and physical examinations.
  3. Perform and record pediatric histories and examinations.
  4. Order appropriate laboratory and imaging studies under physician supervision.
  5. Inform the physician of all changes in the patient’s condition
  6. Through triaging, request when necessary, the services of any support services provided by any of the local hospitals.
  7. Keep the supervising physician informed of additional needs, problem areas and all other suggestions which may be beneficial to the improvement of Family Practice Center, P.C.
  8. Be responsible for meeting CME requirements as needed.
  9. As indicated by training and experience, perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as directed by the physicians including the following:
  10. Superficial wound care and dressings.
  11. Venipuncture for blood collection.
  12. Bladder catheterization.
  13. Superficial wound care and superficial suture placement and removal.
  14. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  15. Record and interpret electrocardiograms.
  16. Collections of specimens including pap smear and KOH prep and obtaining nose, throat, sputum, urine, urethra, cervix and wound cultures.
  17. Perform urine dips and slides, urine pregnancy tests, rapid strep tests, random blood sugar and hemoglobin finger stick testing.
  18. Perform incision and drainage of small abscesses and paronychia.
  19. Placement of intravenous lines.
  20. Perform audiometry, visual acuity, pulmonary function testing, tonometry and tympanometry.
  21. Remove cerumen impaction through ear lavage.
  22. Removal of foreign body, subcutaneous.
  23. Administer subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous injections
  24. Perform and provide patient education and counseling on hypertension, diet, smoking cessation, diabetes, birth control, immunizations and growth and development.
  25. Intradermal tests.
  26. Control of hemorrhage.
  27. Removal of dermatologic abnormalities by shave biopsy or excision.
  28. Perform initial behavioral health assessment and initiate treatment.
  29. Perform toenail removal.
  30. Perform anoscopy.
  31. Application of joint stabilizing devices such as ace wraps, tape strapping, upper and lower extremity braces and splints.
  32. Treatment of first and second degree burns.
  33. Fluorescein dye examination of corneal abrasion/ulceration.
  34. Assist with ACLS/defibrillation.
  35. Other duties:
  36. Convey to patients in language they can understand the summaries of all pertinent medical findings, laboratory results and advice for continuing care.
  37. Participate in employee and patient education.
  38. Rounds on patients at facility indicated.
  39. This job requires access to PHI. HIPAA training is required and HIPAA compliance is expected.
  40. Follow procedures according to OSHA.
  41. Follow procedures according to FPC protocol.
  42. Excluded from physician assistant duties and responsibilities:
  43. Arthrocentesis of knee joint.
  44. Any hip joint injections or aspirations.
  45. Organizational relationships:
  46. Report clinically to the supervising physician who will provide onsite supervision or will be available 24/7 by telephone and pager as needed.
  47. Report administratively to the CEO or COO.
