Position will be open until filled.

Selected applicants are required to pass a typing test of 35 wpm or more, with 90% accuracy. Not all applicants will be selected. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by email to advance to the next stage.

GENERAL PURPOSE: Performs a variety of clerical functions on behalf of the City's Municipal Court; provides customer service to the public; responds to inquiries regarding court related matters; receives and processes Court fees and fines; processes Court documentation; updates and maintains Court records; and performs other duties relative to area of assignment as required.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides customer service to the public in person and via telephone; staffs the public counter.
  • Responds to routine public inquiries; provides information regarding Court policies, procedures, and/or case related matters.
  • Processes monies received for Court fines and fees; balances and maintains assigned cash drawer.
  • Enters, updates, and researches data in the Court's automated Records Management System.
  • Prepares, processes, scans, indexes, and files various types of Court documentation.
  • Initiates arrests in relation to outstanding City and County warrants.
  • Researches, issues, signs out, and clears warrants as assigned.
  • Provides assistance in maintaining the Court's calendars, records, and/or filing systems.
  • Receives requests for information pertaining to background checks as assigned.
  • Compiles data and assists in preparing/generating Court reports as required.
  • Assigns community service and/or driving safety, alcohol, tobacco, parenting, life skills, and bad check classes to defendants; updates and maintains related records.
  • Participates in the Court's collections activities; monitors the status of cases; updates collection records.
  • Provides assistance in booking defendants and processing related documentation as required.
  • Performs other specialized duties relative to area of assignment as assigned or required.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent; and six months' general office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • A valid Texas driver license with a good driving record is required.
  • Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
  • Certification as a Certified Municipal Court Clerk is desirable.
  • Required to pass a typing test of 35 wpm or more, with 90% accuracy.

Required Knowledge of:

  • Municipal Court operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Regulations governing Municipal Court activities.
  • Court records and documentation.
  • Records management principles and standards.
  • General office equipment and standard computer software applications.
  • Customer service standards and protocol.

Required Skill in:

  • Conducting a variety of general clerical duties in support of Municipal Court operations.
  • Responding to routine inquiries and providing customer service to the public.
  • Processing Court fees/fines and balancing assigned cash drawer.
  • Performing accurate data entry and updating/maintaining Court records.
  • Preparing, processing, and maintaining various types of Court documentation.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other staff, City departments, law enforcement personnel, outside agencies, and the general public.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment and at the public counter.
  • Subject to sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Exposure to potentially irate members of the public and infectious diseases is involved.
