Radius Aerospace– Hot Springs is a leading manufacturer of sheet metal parts and assemblies used in the aviation industry. We utilize a wide range of metal forming techniques and special manufacturing processes, servicing the commercial, military, regional jet, helicopter, and general aviation markets.

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product. Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place. Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements. May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Approves planned sequence of fabrication, assembly, installation, and other manufacturing operations for guidance of production operations.
  • Performs root cause analysis of discrepancies (system or product) and implements corrective action.
  • Analyze failure, corrective and preventive action to respond to customer complaints.
  • Evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment (MSA studies).
  • Perform Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) on new programs to minimize or eliminate risk by focusing on prevention and continuous improvement.
  • Applies Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods for analyzing data.
  • Responsible for continual improvement activities to enhance the quality system, such as 6S, Kaizen lean methods, Process Improvements, etc.
  • Interface with Engineering and Operations to ensure transfer to Production of new products are in accordance with approved data.
  • Support the Quality Inspectors to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system.
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; making recommendations.
  • Assist in developing training to build quality awareness.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards.
  • Report to work on time, follow instructions from supervisor or management, interact well co-workers, understand and follow work rules and procedures.
  • Other various duties as needed or as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School or GED required & 2-year Associates or higher preferred.
  • 5 years' experience in Aerospace manufacturing, repair, or modification environment.
  • Working Knowledge of Shop Mathematics, Blueprints, GD&T, Models, machining qualities of material, production methods and shop practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Computer proficiency and functional knowledge with applications and activities.
  • Enovia - knowledge a plus.
  • Knowledge of 5S/Lean principles
  • Problem Solving – Identifies and resolves problems; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • Analytical – be able to collect and research data (knowledge of SPC)
  • Perform Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) on new programs to minimize or eliminate risk by focusing on prevention and continuous improvement.
  • Fully understand blueprints, drawings, templates, preliminary sketches and/or work orders.
  • Proficient with researching, interpreting, and applying customer specifications and work instructions or procedures.
  • Understand use of most aircraft manufacturing tooling and machinery.
  • Must be fluent with most used precision measurement tools & gauges.
  • Teamwork – Exhibits objectivity and openness to other’s view; Puts success of team above own interest.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer contact skills.
