Job Description
Job purpose
The Family Support Provider meets with families of clients as outlined by the client’s treatment plan and indicated by level of care to ensure the behavioral health needs of those assigned are efficiently and effectively served.
Duties and responsibilities
  • Communicate with client’s family to determine level of understanding of their child’s diagnosis and situation
  • Assist the family in identifying their natural supports (in the absences of natural supports, surrogate supports would be investigated as possibilities)
  • Engage and assist the family to actively participate in the Family Team Meetings (FST’s) by helping them predetermine their roles and the roles of natural supports they have
  • Attend FST meetings when needed and model good advocacy skills (some evenings required at times)
  • Assist the family in identifying their child’s strengths and the strengths of the family
  • Assist in troubleshooting and problem solving when current strategies are not working
  • Increase protective factors, while reducing risk factors by helping to maintain family cohesiveness during stressful times by connecting families to community resources, support groups and helpful materials such as videos, books, articles or internet addresses
  • Provide non-clinical “peer support” that is during crisis and other critical periods
  • Complete all necessary documentation in a timely manner
  • Complete other duties as required by the position and/or as assigned by the immediate supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer
Qualifications
  • Education – High School Diploma or its equivalent with specialized training provided by the State
  • Experience – Lived experience as a family member of a child or youth, who had or currently has a behavioral or emotional disorder, and lived in Missouri for two years
  • Skills/Abilities- Effective oral and written communication
Working conditions
General Conditions- Work may be performed in office type settings where answering phone and using computers and other technology should be expected.
Special conditions -Meetings with clients outside the office are common and may require ability to tolerate prolonged exposure to smoke and pets.
Physical requirements
General Conditions- Job duties may require sitting or standing for long periods of time. Frequent travel, with some trips requiring several hours in a vehicle, should be expected. Minor lifting and moving may be expected requiring ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Special conditions -Meetings with clients outside the office may require ability to enter and access homes/buildings of all configurations.
