Manufacturing Process Engineer

JOB SUMMARY **(Salary negotiable)

Responsible for developing, evaluating, and maintaining the integrity of the manufacturing processes related to SMT & Through-Hole Technology PCB's as well as Cables & Electro-Mechanical assembly production. Drive the effort for implementation of continuous improvement projects that will affect manufacturability, process efficiency, flow and quality. Other responsibilities include the evaluation of manufacturability and recommendation of design modifications to improve producibility and/or incorporate changes in customer requirements. Perform engineering activities which include labor & NRE estimation, pre-production meetings, manufacture, and test electronic, and failure analysis & correction of non-conformities as required.

The position requires quick evaluation, troubleshooting and correction of non-conformities to the component level. Assist with new product introduction and prototype production. Implement engineering changes from customers in a manner that maximizes production efficiency and quality output throughout every stage of the process and product. Conduct pre-production meetings to make sure process operations are set up and performed properly, that manufacturing reviews are completed, and that all approvals are obtained from customers before production begins.

Continually evaluate production processes and implement improvements. Collect and analyze data and provide reports pertaining to job efficiency and cost. Perform end-to-end process development for all new and existing products.

This hands-on role involves 85% time spent on the production floor.

The Manufacturing Process Engineer does not have any direct reports

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

·         New product introduction from initial release through production process development and customer delivery

·         Process improvement for efficiency utilizing lean & six sigma improvement methodologies

·         Manufacturing instruction documentation for use in in the manufacturing process for process controls, process validation, process repeatability and customer approvals.

·         Assist the Engineering Manager and company management with cost analysis for improvement projects, equipment risk analysis, specifying new equipment to meet the growing needs of the manufacturing department.

·         Stencil design and procurement

·         Reflow oven, wave solder, and hot air rework temperature profiling

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Participate and lead improvement projects on the manufacturing floor.

·         Provide training, coaching and mentoring to the manufacturing staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

·         Minimum 5+ years’ experience with surface mount, through-hole technology, conformal coating, Cable assembly and box builds in a manufacturing environment.

REQUIRED

·         Thorough knowledge of related soldering and assembly processes, equipment, materials

·         Must be able to identify key process variables and implement statistical process control plans.

·         Knowledge of IPC and J-STD standards

·         Ability to develop and write process instructions and reports, and maintain process documentation.

PREFERRED

• BS (in a related engineering discipline preferred)

·         Strong level user of MS Office products

·         Strong understanding of ERP system functionality

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

 •          Physically tolerate extended periods of sitting at a computer and keyboarding, frequent walking, frequent periods of standing and occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs.
