About the role

Reporting to the Company’s Procurement & Logistics Superintendent, an exciting opportunity exists for a Buyer/Expeditor Specialist to join the Syrah team based in Vidalia, Louisiana. The Buyer-Expeditor Specialist role is to ensure oversee the arrival and distribution of goods and parts. Buyer-Expeditors track all steps of the supply chain and direct colleagues on where to send supplies or product orders. Buyer-Expeditors will act as a liaison between various departments and product suppliers, directing packages to the correct location and arranging for timed deliveries. Buyer-Expeditors assess transportation infrastructure and make suggestions on how to improve efficiency and meet inventory and supply demands. The primary role of the Buyer-Expeditor Specialist is to track the distribution process and provide a guarantee that workflows will be completed on time.

Key role responsibilities include:

  • Always comply with the Company’s Environmental & Social Monitoring Program and Health & Safety Management Plan requirements.
  • Report all hazards, incidents and near misses in line with Company policies and procedures.
  • All work performed safely with the understanding that all accidents and incidents are preventable.
  • Work with different heads of department to monitor inventory levels, assess supply vendors, and ensure delivered supplies meet quality standards.
  • Be knowledgeable in inventory management, know how to place and track orders, measure inventory levels, and inspect supplies for quality and accuracy.
  • Contact vendors, place orders, verify supplies, manage supply requisitions, and communicate with suppliers to determine expected delivery dates and inform managers of potential delays.
  • Maintain schedules for ongoing projects, assign materials and resources when requested to reduce cost, boost productivity, and prevent delays that can affect delivery.
  • Ensure interdepartmental communication for improved coordination of productive operations.
  • Monitor project delivery timelines, check incoming parts quality against company specifications and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborate with project managers and requisitioners for updates on delivery timelines.
  • Compile, record, and report project performance and progress to management and key stakeholders.
  • Accurate and timely issue of maintenance, repair, consumable, and expense items to Syrah personnel.
  • Inventory tracking and reconciliation daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual as required.
  • Report reconciliation, warehouse location management and organization as required.
  • Create bill of lading and shipping documents, digital and paper filing, and overall organization.
  • Create and enter Purchase Requisitions as required.
  • Packaging and un-packaging parts and materials.
  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by the Procurement Supervisor.

Desirable skills and experience include:

  • Preferably 2 years of experience in a manufacturing procurement environment role.
  • Proven exposure to and use of safe systems of work – e.g. risk management, incident reporting.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work according to plant and project schedules.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Better than average math and analytical skills.
  • Basic computer literacy is required. Better than average working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to learn Pronto, Syrah’s ERP system.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel), inventory management and accounting applications
  • Ability to work in a team environment and share information as required.
