This role will review and analyze first and third-party homeowners claims to determine extent of insurance carrier's liability, determines the extent of damaged property, and recommends settlement amounts in order conclude claims with policyholders in accordance with policy provisions and applicable insurance statutes and laws. Field Claims Representatives will provide on-site claims service to our customers. Job responsibilities include investigation, estimate/scope preparation, evaluation of damaged personal belongings, assessment of additional living expenses and coordination of the use of vendors to complete repairs and/or replace damaged property. The majority of claims will involve medium to large structural losses of a highly complex nature.


Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Required to travel throughout his/her assigned territory to investigate, inspect, and conclude homeowners' losses.
  • Reviews the insurance policy contract, policy endorsements and related documents to make a proper coverage determination.
  • Highly proficient in preparing property damage estimates using computer-estimating software.
  • Reviews estimates submitted and negotiate agreements on scope and cost of repairs.
  • Complies with customer service objectives (as determined by the company).
  • Meets or exceeds production objectives (as determined by the company).
  • Prepares complete claim reports and transmits them on a timely basis for payment.
  • Obtains any physical evidence, develops third party information and theory of liability, conducts recorded or face to face interviews, and secures official records.
  • Recognizes and submits subrogation, underwriting and SIU referrals as necessary.
  • Communicates effectively with customers and vendors in a prompt, professional manner.
  • Communicate expectations and oversee all vendors involved in the claim investigation. May involve re-inspection of work product and evaluation of customer service.
  • Maintains file documentation, file notes and investigation documentation on each assigned claim.
  • Maintains open claim inventory per company guidelines.
  • Ability to attend offsite and/ or out of State training seminars
  • Clearly posts or attaches information to the electronic claim file.
  • Follows up timely with policyholders or other involved persons for information pertinent to the claim investigation via phone, mail, or electronic mail.
  • Communicates with Claims Supervisors/Managers consistent with company guidelines.
  • Operates in accordance with Florida Statues.
  • Maintains FL license by meeting continuing education requirements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This job has limited supervisory responsibilities. Field Adjusters will communicate expectations and oversee all vendors involved in the claim investigation. This can involve re-inspection of work product and evaluation of customer service. Field Adjusters may also be used as Catastrophe Coordinators during significant weather events.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • College degree (four-year college/university preferred) or equivalent professional education and experience combined; and a minimum of 6-8 years related adjusting experience. Contracting background is a plus. Successful completion of current courses as outlined in the extended training catalogue, and/or insurance industry courses for this position and successful completion of a company sponsored insurance designation.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Knowledge of personal lines property forms and endorsements, ability to read and interpret documents, such as insurance contracts, structural estimates, expert reports, construction codes, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in person or on the telephone. Fluency in Spanish a plus.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite including, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Individual must be able to create presentations using Power Point and other available software and equipment.
  • Proficiency with Symbility or Xactimate estimating software.

MATHEMATICAL/COMPUTER/EQUIPMENT SKILLS

  • Proficient is using computer software applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), understands how to complete electronic building damage estimates, and to calculate amounts such as, interest, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Familiar with the use of digital cameras, camcorders, tape measures, and digital voice recording equipment.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, customer service oriented, empathy, pays attention to detail, shows high initiative, well organized, works well with limited supervision, and has the ability to learn.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support to other members of the technical claims staff.
  • Participates in CAT Duty as required.
  • Other duties as determined by management.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Insurance adjusters license State of Florida (520 license).
