Qualifications

Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in education, industrial arts, nursing, a social or behavioral science, or a mental health or human services field.

Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying experience in teaching or providing services for intellectually or developmentally disabled individuals may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.

NSQ's:

  1. Completed a background check in a manner approved by the appointing authority.
  2. Possess a valid driver's license.
  3. Be able to lift 50 pounds with or without assistance.

Summary

Under general supervision, this classification is responsible for overseeing direct care work of average difficulty, supervisory work of average difficulty, and related work as required. This is the supervisory level in the IDD direct care series. An employee in this classification manages a community home that provides direct care for intellectually and developmentally disabled people. This class differs from a Direct Support Professional in that the incumbent supervises and is responsible for all daily operations of a community home.

Responsibilities

  1. Prepares a monthly schedule for assigned employees following policies and procedures.
  2. Maintains and reports quarterly on each person served's personal property inventory.
  3. Effectively trains employees on person centered plans within designated timeframes and ensures consistent implementation of the plan across shifts and environments. Includes, but is not limited to diets, diet textures, eating, positioning, programming for development of new skills, and administration of active treatment.
  4. Effectively communicates with internal and external Customers.
  5. Review Person-Centered Support plans monthly to ensure they are providing details needed to best serve persons supported.
  6. Utilizes the Edison System for performance evaluations, training, timekeeping, benefits, and employee information.
  7. Completes training assigned within stated timelines.
  8. Ensures the home is functioning as it should. Includes, but not limited to home inspections, equipment checks, and routine checks on all shifts.
  9. Plans for emergencies to ensure persons supported remain safe and practices safety drills routinely to ensure safety of persons supported at all times.
  10. Uses State Purchase Card to quickly procure supplies as needed for the home.
  11. Routinely checks supplies to ensure the home has what is needed to efficiently operate and procure supplies as needed.
  12. Coordinates appointments with each person served's team to ensure appointments are met and staffing notes are communicated with the team at the conclusion of the appointment.
