Network Engineer - DOCSIS Engineering

JOB PURPOSE:

The Network Engineering - DOCSIS team is responsible for helping create and operate our highly rated and award-winning service provider network. This role is important to design and enhance our network to meet the customer's needs. The Network Engineer - DOCSIS applies their specialized knowledge to design, build, maintain and support Midco's DOCSIS and PON access network. Knowledge will also be leveraged to lead advanced projects and achieve Bestness.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

• Provide expert level support of Midco's Access Networks by engaging advanced knowledge of DOCSIS and PON network delivery systems over Fiber and HFC access networks.
• Provide support for multiple projects or aspects of the Fiber and HFC access networks.
• Assist field with problem resolution on DOCSIS and PON networks.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain DOCSIS CMTS, RPHY, Aggregation switches, PON OLT, and R-OLT network hardware.
• Perform network upgrades on all managed equipment including customer CPE.
• Create Visio drawings of network architecture and configurations.
• Ensure that access networks are in compliance with company, departmental and FCC regulations, policies, and procedures, and conduct technical audits as necessary to monitor compliance.
• Ensure that services are operated and maintained in a manner consistent with the requirements of the services carried on the access networks.
• Engineer and perform any testing and design processes required to expand and implement new spectrum into our access networks.
• Manage customer allocation and tracking of spectrum and service segmentation to ensure customers are receiving their subscribed service and performance expectations.
• Keep Management up to date of engineering activities, issues, and progress.
• Serve as a liaison between your team and other departments; build and maintain strong, collaborative, and productive working relationships.
• Asist with resolving outages quickly and completely, while providing optimal internal customer service.
• Assist in developing specifications and parameters for the design of access networks.
• Coordinate effective testing programs with the Technology Group and Field Operations.
• Must be able to travel when necessary.
• Operate and drive a Company vehicle in accordance with all Midco policies including maintaining a safe driving record.
• Compile timely, comprehensive, and accurate reports as requested.
• Follow and serve as a role model in displaying Midco's Core Values and Leadership Success Drivers.
• Adhere to Midco's privacy guidelines to ensure each customer's privacy.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead technical projects/upgrades/deployments
• Provide feedback to management and principal levels for improving process and/or engineering.
• Mentor to less senior engineers and technicians.
• Provide documented training and train teams members and other groups such as NOC and NIS.
• Trusted resource within team.
• Create efficiencies through scripting - Bash, Python etc.
• Serve as reliable escalation party within team.
• Provide input for future budgeting.
• Function as an effective team member while supporting Midco efforts, strategies, initiatives, and projects.
• Support the mission, vision, and values of Midco.
• Possess an enthusiastic, energetic, self-motivated, and detail-oriented approach towards work and all work projects.
• Possess strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills while using good judgment.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Network Engineer I-DOCSIS:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum 7 years network engineering experience required. Experience in telecommunications industry preferred.
• DOCSIS training and/or working knowledge.

Network Engineer II-DOCSIS:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum 9 years network engineering experience required. Experience in telecommunications industry preferred.
• SCTE FTTP/EPON training or working knowledge.

Network Engineer III-DOCSIS:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum 11 years network engineering experience required. Experience in telecommunications industry preferred.
• SCTE BTS, DOCSIS 3.1, FTTP training or working knowledge.

Network Engineer IV-DOCSIS:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum 13 years network engineering experience required. Experience in telecommunications industry preferred.
• SCTE DEP Certification and DAA knowledge.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or carry loads of up to 50 lbs.
• The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
• Employees may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week and other than normal business hours, such as holidays, evenings and weekends as business demands.
