Summary of Position:

The Reservoir Engineer III will perform and lead reservoir engineering technical work for the Permian Business unit working on projects including quantifying reserves and resources and providing reservoir engineering support for efficient development of Civitas’s Permian Assets within the Delaware or Midland Basins. They will work closely with land, geology, development, and operations to gather and analyze data for economic modeling of the resource. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, demonstrating a proven track record of maximizing reservoir potential and contributing to the company's overall growth.


Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for reserve and economic analysis for the Permian Business unit including type curve creation and DCA.
  • Work with a broad multi-disciplinary team to create efficient field development and/or exploration programs to maximize value and increase reserve estimates using all aspects of petroleum engineering.
  • Analyze data and construct appropriate reservoir models to assist in economic analysis and planning development strategies.
  • Help develop, test and administer surveillance programs to adequately evaluate upside potential.
  • Assist with budget, long-range planning and reserve activities as requested and communicate to Corporate Reserve team.
  • Provide detailed full and half cycle economic analysis of individual wells, pads and development plans.
  • Supports and participates in quarterly reserve processes.
  • Performs economic evaluations of trades, leasing and acquisitions.
  • Ensure compliance with local and national regulations and standards related to reservoir engineering and oil and gas operations.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports and documentation to regulatory authorities including preparation of technical testimony.
  • Creates non-op well evaluations for AFE approval.
  • Evaluate and quantify reservoir-related risks and uncertainties and develop risk mitigation plans.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior reservoir engineers and support staff
  • Follow safe operating practices and ensure compliance with CIVI Environment, Safety & Regulatory requirements.
  • Assure work performed adheres to CIVI standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Experience with Petroleum Economics and Reserves Software, such as Aries, required.
  • Experience with Database Management Systems, such as Access, required.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and business acumen required.
  • Ability to thrive in both an independent and collaborative work environment and have exceptional skills in managing multiple demands, including prioritizing deadlines.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and grasp new concepts quickly.
  • Motivated self-starter that takes initiative and solves problems.
  • Ability to professionally collaborate with other departments.
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety and environmental compliance in all job aspects.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills are a must.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft 360 products (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Experience with Data Visualization Software, such as Power BI or Spotfire preferred.

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years related experience in oil and gas.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Reservoir Engineer.
  • B.S. degree in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or Geological Engineering required.
  • Recent Delaware Basin experience preferred.

Travel Requirements:

  • Work is performed at a CIVI location Tues-Thurs with an option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9 hour works days M-Thurs and 4-hour workdays Friday.
  • Travel required to the Civitas field locations.
