Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment. May perform all or just some of the essential functions listed below.

SUPERVISES: N/A

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Prepares goods for shipment to include identifying what has to be shipped, crating or packaging item utilizing appropriate packaging and packing materials, affixing shipping labels, or stenciling identifying shipping information, weighing, examining shipment to ensure shipment meets specifications and staging for pick up.
  2. Contacts carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
  3. Records shipment data, such as weight, charges, etc.
  4. Assists with loading or unloading shipments utilizing tier-lift truck or hand truck.
  5. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments and compares with records, such as manifests, invoices or orders to verify accuracy of incoming shipment; rejects damaged items; records shortages and corresponds or contacts shipper to rectify damages and shortages or non-conformance to specifications.
  6. Orders shipping/receiving supplies and maintains/inventories items stored.
  7. Handles name Plate Data Entry. (List of parts needed to replace broken items on board government vessels.)
  8. When a vessel leaves, responsible for making sure all paperwork is in order, residual parts and equipment are returned to appropriate party/location, and disposal of scrap is handled per policy.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows safety regulations.
  2. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  2. Minimum of one year in a shipping and receiving environment preferably within the maritime industry.
  3. Ability to operate a pallet jack or forklift. (Training may be provided by Company)
  4. Attention to detail and ability to work with multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Must be familiar with the process of using a PC to record inventory, transfers, and shipments.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact well with others.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office Environment and exposure to outdoor conditions (hot/cold) and intermittent sounds at a level sufficient to cause hearing loss or fatigue. The physical requirements include ability to sit, stand for long periods of time, crouch, stoop and climb ladders, motor coordination skills and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and ability to perform basic arithmetic accurately and quickly. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more with or without corrective lenses. Must have ability to express ideas using the spoken word and requires the perception of speech.
