Hino Motors Manufacturing is an OEM that assembles trucks in West Virginia, automotive components in Arkansas, and operates a parts distribution center in California.

We are currently seeking an Assistant Manager, Production Preparation located in Mineral Wells/Williamstown, WV reporting directly to the Manager, Production Preparation. This individual will be responsible for leading the team in preparation of all new plant requirements. These requirements will entail managing all activities from kick-off to SOP including preparation of all documents, reporting, training, and safety/quality confirmations. Focus areas will include (New Models, ECI introductions, FSR studies, R & D requests, New Modifications, Takt Changes, ECR/Vehicle cost improvements).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages Production Preparation Projects: Works with team to develop strategies for implementing new plant requirements. Plans and oversees activities required to establish processes and procedures that result in successful launch of new plant requirements (MY Changes, ECI introductions, New Modifications, Takt Changes etc.). Works with and communicates with other departments activity plans and requirements. Provides reports to management of ongoing progress and any issues that need outside support. Creates plans, schedules, and goals to assure proper prioritization and timely completion of all project tasks (communicates status to appropriate parties). Ensures safe work environment and that all team members perfo1m work in a standardized safe manner. Instills the importance of quality production with all members by setting and maintaining goals that create processes and procedures that lead to "zero" defect production.
  • Leads Special Project Teams: Will be responsible for leading special project teams as required to implement major changes to plant operations (model year changes, new modifications, takt changes and new business). Assists in the review of proposed changes to product and production processes. Creates project scope/plan and communicates to team and management on project direction, schedule, and status. Leads team by setting goals, assigning tasks, and following-up to ensure project stays on schedule and that all items are fully complete per defined scope. Acts as a liaison between different parts of corporate (Detroit and Japan), outside vendors and the plant in West Virginia'.
  • Production/Maintenance Support: Provides assistance to both production and maintenance in areas identified, including investigation of new production methods, procedures, policies, and equipment that will enhance key performance indicators. Change strategies shall follow standard approval process and consider ramifications to safety, quality, cost, service, and employee morale.
  • Change Requests: Communicates directly with HML on all requests to study process/product changes. Includes establishing methods to evaluate requests, performing the evaluation, documenting, and reporting results to management. Coordinates effort to generate ideas for CCI improvements, (establish and executes plan to involve all team members in cost reduction effort.) Documents and reports cost reduction plan and status to management.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or operations management related field
  • 10 years manufacturing experience, project management experience,5 years in an engineering role, supervisory or leadership role
  • Six Sigma Green desired
  • Lean Manufacturing required
  • Working knowledge of Japanese organization preferred

Skills Required:

  • Must have supervisory skills and management experience.
  • Must have specific understanding of mechanical principles as well as assembly processes
  • Must be able to read and interpret engineered drawings; must be able to translate from drawing to practical application
  • Must be able to reprioritize projects and workload frequently based on changing situations
  • Must be tactful, mature, flexible and able to successfully respond to multiple work pressures.
  • Ability to use a computer and such applications as Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and be able to design custom reports as necessary.
  • Ability to effectively deliver presentations and respond to questions from Managers, Staff, clients, and the general public in English.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to individuals and groups in English.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

Travel Requirements: 10-15% of the time
