The YMCA of Greater Richmond is looking for enthusiastic, positive youth development professionals to serve as Assistant Teachers in our in-person Power Scholars Academy Summer Program in the Petersburg area. This part-time position starts in July and ends in early August. Starts at $15/hour and has the opportunity to be up to 40 hours/week.

DUTIES of an Assistant Teacher

The Assistant Teacher will work closely with certified teachers to implement academic enrichment programs for elementary school students. Specific duties include supporting the development of relevant lessons; ensuring academic and social development of scholars; working with teachers to identify scholar needs and create instructional plans; monitoring scholars' progress and making recommendations for adjustments; working to create a safe and productive learning environment; and supervising scholars in in-person day to day activities as well as special functions, such as field trips.

The YMCA of Greater Richmond will be following all, current COVID procedures (group sizes, screenings, masks, social distancing).

QUALIFICATIONS of an Assistant Teacher

Academic skills, including proficiency in elementary/middle school math and literacy. Related college level coursework, along with high school diploma or equivalent is required. Excellent verbal, written, organizational and technological skills. Strong relationship building, communication and leadership skills. Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and service to diverse populations.
