Job Purpose:
Under direction of the Vice President of Business Operations, the Senior Electrical Designer will work closely with engineers and customers to deliver complete design-build projects. They shall direct, coordinate and exercise functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration and completion of the engineering project within the area of assigned responsibility. They will create full electrical design drawing packages integrated with the input of field experts, estimators, and our mechanical engineering department, and will then oversee the manufacturing of these systems with the help of the project management team.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the electrical design project, including lighting design, power system design and low-voltage system designs for equipment
  • Leads and mentors entry-level and junior designers
  • Ensures quality and accuracy while keeping within project budget
  • Creates full electrical design drawing packages integrated with the input of field experts, estimators, and mechanical engineering team
  • Creates drawing packages from Schematic Design, along with all associated prints, diagrams, schedules, compliance forms, and specifications
  • Handles all aspects of detailed design and assists with production related questions and planning as needed
  • Researches and presents design options and collects data to support design decisions
  • Monitors and controls project progress and design variations
  • Collaborates with project managers and the manufacturing/installation team during both design build and construction phases
  • Communicates with customers in the form of meetings and presentations to understand and define their needs, provide project status, and respond to requests or concerns - both verbal and written
  • Maintains excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business
  • Reviews drawings and researches codes to verify compliance with city, state, and county regulations and ensures Quality Control
  • Understands NFDA & NEC requirements
  • Possesses the ability to work concurrently on several projects at once
  • Must be willing to travel on occasion – limited to kick-off meetings with customers as needed (max of 12 nights per year typically)
  • Be willing to stay current on industry standard requirements such as NEC codes, ISO9001, AS9100, OSHA, ANSI, ASME, CMAA, as well as any other related specifications needed to perform industry-accepted designs and equipment


Job Requirements:

  • Strong AutoCAD skills, experience with AutoCAD Electrical
  • Must meet badging requirements for onsite access to all USACE and Boeing projects
  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship
  • Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in electrical design
  • Excellent organizational and design skills
  • Skilled in task management and problem solving
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity of the National Electrical Code (NEC), International Building Code (IBC) and local energy codes
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing less experienced electrical designers
  • Must have experience sizing VFDs & utilizing them in control system design with PLC interface over ethernet
