Job Title: Staff Pharmacist
Primary Function and Relationship to Total Organization: Works to perform function of Pharmacy, kinetic dosing, drug information, medication distribution, patient/staff teaching, and other duties as directed by the pharmacy manager. Works with other pharmacy department members to continually improve all aspects of department functions and participates in activities that assist in improving our community’s health. This position must work within confines of applicable state and federal regulations.
Reports to: Director of Pharmacy
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receiving and filling prescriptions.
- Entering and verifying orders in electronic medical record utilized by facility.
- Communicating with medical professionals about patients and their medications.
- Listening to patients’ reports of symptoms and provide suggestions for over-the-counter medications.
- Accurately and properly measuring, preparing and distributing medications to patients.
- Tracking inventory
- Provide supervision to pharmacy tech as needed.

Minimum educational requirements: Education & Licensure – Minimum, Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Program approved by American College of Pharmacy Educator (ACPE). Pharmacy License in Iowa or eligible for licensure.Work environment: Works primarily within Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Areas worked include, but are not limited to: pharmacy, patient care areas, storage areas. Normal work environment within the hospital is clean, temperature controlled, organized.
Employment variables/approximate hours*/misc. information: May require travel. Must be willing to respond to phone calls/other messages if necessary, outside of normal work hours. Must be willing and able to learn and maintain competencies on variety of equipment used to prepare, package, verify, and store all types of medications.
