Accounting Manager

 

TITLE: ACCOUNTING MANAGER

 

SUPERVISOR: VICE PRESIDENT

 

JOB BRIEF:

Complete oversight of the accounting department/staff, functions and processes while handling a variety of accounting responsibilities and tasks, including the processing of payroll twice per month for all employees.

 

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all professional matters and must have strong organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills and be detail-oriented. Must have strong oral and written communication skills with a high level of reasoning and independent problem- solving skills. Must have strong leadership skills with the ability to lead others well. The role works closely with executives, lenders, staff,

vendors, and others to whom they represent the company.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Oversight of accounting department/staff, including all policies and procedures, functions and processes as they apply to the entire company/all staff.

·  Assist in recruitment, interviewing and hiring of new accounting staff.

·  Responsible for training and evaluation of accounting staff.

·  Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.

·  Handle discipline and assist in termination of accounting staff in accordance with company policies and procedures.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Payroll processing/coordination and assist with payroll invoice preparation and processing of cash transfers.

·  Processing of month end and preparation of monthly and annual financial reports including monthly bank and investment account reconciliations, processing of write-offs and PTO accruals.

·  Resolve accounting discrepancies/issues including G/L research and review. Ensure that financial reports comply with generally accepted accounting principles and/or financial reporting standards.

·  Oversight of annual unclaimed property reporting and quarterly replacement reserve reimbursement requests.

·  Oversight of NSF resident payments, credit card chargebacks and ACH rent payment posting from various agencies and employee housing discounts.

·  Processing of capital improvement invoices and monitoring of payments for capital improvement projects as needed.

·  Coordination of lender financial reports and other communications as required.

·  Assist with gathering information as needed for annual budgeting process, investor reports and annual tax preparation process with CPA firm.

·  Assist with bookkeeping for various entities as needed.

·  Maintain knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in the accounting profession: apply this knowledge to recommend and implement process/policy changes.

·  Improve and implement financial controls, ensuring accurate control and accounting of assets and accounts.

·  Other tasks and duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior accounting position, with at least 2 years as a manager of an accounting department required.

·  Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.

·  Property management industry or real estate finance experience preferred.

·  Significant experience in all Microsoft Office products, including advanced Excel knowledge.

·  Experience with PEO software systems and/or Yardi preferred. Able to learn new software systems quickly.

·  Motivated and self-driven to complete required responsibilities; full time hours required.
