Union Tank Car Company is seeking qualified welders at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Muscatine, Iowa. Wages start at $25.00 per hour. Certified welders can make between $29.00 to $34.00 per hour! The Company's regulatory, engineering, and commercial expertise make UTLX the preferred source of railcars and services for many of its customers. Primary Job Functions

This is not an exhaustive list and employees in these classifications frequently may be required to perform additional duties. Not all classifications will be required to perform all job functions.

• Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.
• Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.
• Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag, or spatter.
• Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools.
• Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank cars when required.
• Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Have a High School Diploma or GED, or be willing to complete an on-site basic skills assessment
• Must have basic welding experience; 1 year of professional welding experience is preferred.
• Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, work orders, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions.
• Have analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail.
• Safety and quality focused.
• Be available to work any shift.
• Be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contract. Must be able to pass a 60-day probation period with limited absenteeism, and safety and performance issues.

Environmental Conditions

• Will have to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
• Will perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
• Will be working around hot work and fumes common to welding and body repair.
• May work in confined spaces and must be able to enter and fit through an 18-to-20-inch manway opening.
• May work from heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection.
• Close mental and visual attention required, coordinating manual dexterity with mental and visual attention for sustained periods of time.
