Job Title: Facility Operations Manager
Department: Human Services
Reports To: Chief Program Officer
FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary
The role of the Facility Operations Manager (FOM) in the homeless shelter environment is to facilitate the safety and operations of the shelter. This position requires an individual with safety/security background and experience in dealing with client challenges such as mental health and substance abuse. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to de-escalate crisis situations. The Facility Operations Manager is responsible for the security of the facility and grounds and for the direct supervision of shelter staff during their shift. The FOM will work directly with the Chief Program Officer to develop appropriate training and development for all staff that they directly supervise. This position requires strong management and leadership skills. The Facility Operations Manager will help ensure that staff treat clients with respect, dignity and compassion while at the same time ensuring that the rules of the shelter are being enforced.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Ensures the physical safety of staff, residents and the facility
  2. Intervenes to de-escalate crisis situations as they arise
  3. Directly supervises Advocates
  4. Works closely with the Assistant Human Services Administrator on training and evaluation of staff
  5. Works as part of the interdisciplinary team that plans and executes new programs, activities and educational opportunities for clients
  6. Is ultimately responsible for troubleshooting any problem that may arise and coordinating a resolution with the other members of the Men's Shelter Team
  7. Builds a working collaboration between the Men's Shelter Team and the other organizational teams including Women/Family Team, Housing, Food Services, Health Services, and Maintenance
  8. Compile monthly reports and statistical data as required
  9. Supervise the data input for the Guest Intake program on a daily basis
  10. Maintain high level of communication between departments and shifts
  11. Participate in the work of at least one client centered team
  12. Other duties as specified.

Resident, Guest and Internal Customer Focus
The Facility Operations Manager is sensitive to emotional, physical and practical needs of resident, families, guests and staff members in all interactions. Provides positive feedback and comments about the quality of work and effort that have been offered by residents, families and coworkers. Adjusts priorities and schedules to meet specific customer needs. Reports and/or corrects problems related to safety, cleanliness and comfort of resident and work areas. Understands own role facility safety plans and procedures related to fire, weather and other disasters is demonstrated.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • A.A. degree or relevant experience
  • Background in Security or Mental Health required
  • Strong management skills
  • CPR certification ( or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and deal respectfully with challenging clients
  • Ability to train and motivate Advocates as well as complete all administrative functions of the position
  • Good computer skills

Physical/Mental Demands and Working Conditions
  • Valid Florida driver's license
  • If driving a company vehicle on work-related business, must be 21 years of age and may require an acceptable annual Motor Vehicle Record check
  • Ability to pass a Level II Background Screening
  • Physically able to work in a fast paced, multitasked environment
  • Ability to travel locally from time to time
  • Works in shelter setting
