Interested in a busy environment assisting hosts of researchers in state-of-the-art research?

Join a dynamic team at the Stanford Shared FACS Facility. We are looking for a Cytometrist with expert skill in sorting and high-parameter flow cytometry to join us and lead our cytometry education and technical training efforts. In addition to assisting with daily instrument operations and researcher support, we are seeking an enthusiastic cytometrist with experience in teaching. A highly qualified candidate will be able to design and implement strategies for training researchers and technical staff to be proficient in equipment operation. Education responsibilities will include working with the Center director to host an educational seminar series and workgroup sessions to help researchers maximize the potential of flow cytometry technologies. This position will require advanced knowledge of principles, concepts, and methods of flow cytometry, sorting, and experimental design.

Experience with 2 or more of the following systems is desired: BD FACSAria/Fusion/S6/Influx sorters, BD Symphony/LSRII analyzers, Cytek Aurora analyzers, Agilent Novocyte analyzer systems, Fluidigm CyTOF. Experience with flow cytometry analysis software and high-dimensional data analysis is also highly desired. This is a salaried position and exact hours will depend on facility operational needs. Duties include:

  • Oversight of education and technical training in support of the Shared Flow cytometry mission to support research efforts. This may include:
    • Training researcher and facility staff in operation of flow cytometry analyzers and sorters.
    • Development of SOPs for instrumentation operation.
    • Protocol development.
    • Organization and hosting/presenting educational seminar series and workshops.
  • Support of facility operations including instrument operation, maintenance and setup.
  • Providing researchers and new staff members with guidance in experiment design, data analysis, and use of software packages such as FlowJo.
  • Collaboration with faculty and colleagues to determine and implement instrumentation needs and develop/verify applications to support research.
  • Ensure appropriate biosafety protocols are in place and review incoming projects for appropriate biosafety levels and documentation.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience with flow cytometry, teaching/instructional experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a BSL-2 laboratory environment.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree in related scientific field and three years of relevant work experience; or Master’s degree in a related scientific field and one year relevant experience; or PhD in related science field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
  • Expert level knowledge and skills in field of science related to research project.
  • General computer skills, experience with databases and scientific applications, and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Developing project management skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.

The expected pay range for this position is $81,000 to $106,000 per annum.
