ATA Services is looking to hire an experienced PC Support Tech. This is a temporary position with the City of Albuquerque.

  • Pay rate: $26.63 per hour with weekly pay.
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • This position requires the candidate to pass a criminal background check and drug test

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist in the operation and maintenance of computer equipment in support of an assigned area; trouble shoot equipment problems and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. This is the advanced journey level class in the PC Support Specialist series. Positions at this level are distinguished by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility. May assume project management responsibilities and training of new PC Support Specialist Staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below)

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of computer equipment in support of an assigned area; respond to user complaints and inquires; refer users to higher level assistance as appropriate.
  • Trouble shoot equipment problems to ensure functional operation; monitor the performance of computer circuits.
  • Perform back up procedures for assigned computer files; coordinate restoration and retrieval of files as needed; maintain all files in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Monitor the availability of spare computer terminals and equipment; replace equipment for users as needed.
  • Download data from disks and tapes to various computer systems/platforms.
  • Consult with ISD staff and clients; evaluate, test and implement new personal computers, operating systems and application software solutions.
  • Coordinate and install cards, drives, tapes, memory and software into stand-alone or network connected personal computers at client work locations.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to ISD staff and clients in the setting up of personal computer and installation of hardware and supported applications software.
  • Diagnose and resolve PC related problems.
  • Verify personal computer, printer and print server requests comply with City standards including standard network interface cards.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science or a related field, plus three (3) years of experience involving the operation and trouble shooting of automated information systems and associated computer applications.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Operational characteristics of computer equipment which may include personal computers, operating system environments, application software, peripheral equipment and printers
  • Principles and practices of customer service
  • Principles of business correspondence and basic report generation
  • Advanced methods and techniques used in trouble shooting various computer hardware and software applications
  • ITIL principles and best practices particularly related to service operations

PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITY:

  • Lead, organize and review the work of staff
  • Independently diagnose and resolve the most difficult hardware and software problems
  • Interpret, explain and enforce policies and procedures concerning system security
  • Monitor and optimize desktop performance and reliability
  • Evaluate, test, implement and support desktop hardware and software technology
  • Setup and maintain systems for central desktop computer management of the OS, applications and printers
  • Document instructions for commonly performed tasks
  • Draft and implement quality assurance and security procedure for Service Desk operations
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
